Daily Inspiration: Meet Theodore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Theodore.

Hi Theodore, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved music, I’ve always been a “fan”, but I wasn’t always a creator.

Late 2016, my childhood sweetheart breaks up with me, and it’s the end of an era. We first got together when we were 13, and when it was all over I was 19.

The whole thing left me barely hanging on by a thread, and I really needed to “share”, talk to somebody. But my friend list was rather short back then, that’s how life is sometimes, so I started creating and doing things to fill my void through the internet. Lofi hiphop was still a niche thing back then and I somehow stumbled upon a track or two, and they really clicked. I downloaded FL Studio and started sampling and creating sounds.

“Lost Son” started as a hobby, but it ended up being my whole life. After a year or two, lofi hiphop went really mainstream and somehow, I was on the frontline. Not only I witnessed this huge wave, but it helped me solidify my identity as an artist.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel like I had a unique story (I guess everybody says that, but) because I did music just for myself. I just liked doing it, I never wanted money or likes or success. It was just my thing. I’m here by mistake haha, rode a wave and got off wherever it landed.

So I never really “struggled” as an “upcoming” artist, I was just myself, doing things on my computer. The fact that things took off was just life doing her thing. “Follow your heart” was something we used to consider corny or old-fashioned advice but no, it’s actually the key.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My main occupation bears the title “music artist”, that’s who I really am.

As a fan of music and the music business itself though, I’ve branched out over the years. Currently, I run a “boutique”, as I call it, independent record label – Reminessence Records, and also I operate as a music career advisor on the side for people who are starting their music careers.

My greatest achievement is my music’s reach to be honest. The main goal with making music was to share my stories and communicate with people without saying a single word. I did that, and so I don’t need anything else in life.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
My sensitive side. It may sound shallow, but the way things are, you have to always be on guard, be tough, jump every hurdle. Because of that, people might forget that you’re not as rock-solid as you present yourself to be.
