Daily Inspiration: Meet Tazz Barnes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tazz Barnes.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
So we started The Black & Unfiltered Podcast at the start of the pandemic as a way to just have an outlet to talk about all the incidents with people of color and the police. We touched on that a couple of episodes and then we started wanting to have more fun with the show, so we started shifting towards broadening the content we discussed. We would talk entertainment news, current events going on in the world and sports, etc. So the more we studied podcasting and talked about revamping the show to make it “ours” we started introducing our own signature segments.

So our original segments were Blo-gic with our crew member Uncle Blo which is a twist on the word Logic where Uncle Blo answers questions in a way only he can do so. Then we introduced S.O.Y.A “Spazz On Yo Azz” where we would spaz about situations or things that irritate us. Our Best on tho which is the latest one we came up with is The Unfiltered Files where we give listeners a chance to write into us for advice on different situations some of them scandalous to say the least lol. We still touch on current world issues and some entertainment news and we do sports mainly when Football and Basketball is in season. We also branched off and created two other interview-type shows one is a partnership with my C.O.O. Darnelle aka Famou$ “The B&U Famous Brand Business Spotlight” where we interview business owners and entrepreneurs and we have “Live From The Underground” where we interview Hip Hop and R&B Artist which we have connected with Artist from a lot of different areas even the UK. Recently earlier this year we became a legit LLC which is something we are very proud of and we now have a management shoutout to Jae and Justin aka Certified Loyalty Management Group. So we are just focusing on building our following and networking and connecting with people grinding like we are.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh no definitely not. We still have struggles now Podcasting mics and proper equipment isn’t cheap lol. Plus podcasting is still a relatively new space so you have to learn as the field grows. Our first thing was getting better mics so we sounded better which we are getting to the point of all nine members having quality mics our sound has come a LONG way tho. The main thing I always try to stress to the crew is consistency and making sure we moving correctly and as a unit. We want this to be more than just a podcast we think media companies like things. Also of course managing nine different personalities and perspectives is a task in itself we have the normal situations that most groups have “arguments, differences of opinions, etc.” but we make sure we always come back together and stay locked in on the goals at hand.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently Black & Unfiltered Entertainment specializes in Podcasting/Radio, Interviews and Content Creation we planning to get into gaming but that’s still down the road. What makes me proud is that we are often praised for our Authenticity and going against the grain and not trying to fit the mold of what the majority of podcasts are doing and also our consistency we are coming up on 100 episodes and that’s a major milestone a lot of pandemic podcast started and just stopped and we kept on grinding. People think Podcasting you can come in and get rich overnight or become the next Joe Rogan or Joe Budden or other major podcast which I’m not saying it can’t happen but it’s work that has to go into anything you do. Essentially we are media personalities and media is something that has to be studied in order to done correctly. We almost 100 episodes in we may not really blow up until 500 episodes in cause by then we may have FINALLY figured it out and that’s what separates everything.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t really believe in luck. I believe in God and Timing. Things unfold and happen when the timing is right and YOU are right. It was a blessing and timing that we got our first radio airplay on One United Radio Network “Shoutout to my big bro Jah Ali”. It was a blessing and timing that we were able to secure airplay on TheBlock105 “Shoutout to R.E.C.” It was a blessing and timing Jae & Justin with Certified Loyalty Management Group saw enough potential in us to say “Ok we see the potential in y’all we wanna help y’all and manage ya’ll”.
