Daily Inspiration: Meet Sharon Newman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Newman.

Hi Sharon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been immersed in art my whole life. Being a creative has always been the most natural thing I could do. I’ve played around with several creative mediums from dance to music, singing, to painting to simple expressions like cooking or interior design. In my youth, I worked in front of the camera, both as a model and actress under miss Marla Craig aka Marla English. Though I found myself more comfortable behind the lens. Art in many ways lives within me and I seem to express it best when creating stylized photography.

My love of art and texture and need to fulfill my urban desires lead me to capture the Art Walk of Santa Ana documenting events and people for more than seven years. In my free time, my heart lead me to explore the nature trails of the Upper Back Bay taking images of dreamy spots with stunning views. Then, my then ten years old daughter told me that she wanted to model. This all lead to styling shoots and learning my craft behind the camera.

Eleven years later, we have a full styling wardrobe complete with accessories, shoes, etc.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
If it had been easy, I’m not sure if I would have valued any of it.

The challenges I faced weren’t anything unusual.

I’d say that the only real obstacle I had was getting over the social ideology that I was supposed to be someone or something I really didn’t want to be. So, fighting for the ability to just maintain the freedom to wave my personal freak flag and make it as an artist has been my most notable to date.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a photographer and I specialize in stylized portrait photography. I’m known for capturing the energy of a session through a series of images that each tell a story. I’m proud of myself for being able to rebuild a life and start a career at age 40. I’m now 52! I also run a networking business, Bee+Hive Artist Collective, designed by and for artists to encourage more Hive Minded collaborations and thriving artists.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always looking for hive minded creatives to collaborate with on both creative directions, makeup and hair, as well as other stylists, models to have fun with, artists to open my third eye, chefs, yogis.

For collaborations or to discuss booking sessions: email.

Support artists by buying their art.
