Daily Inspiration: Meet Shai Snead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shai Snead.

Hi Shai, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been an Instagram star, influencer and model for years, I’m a brand rep for a local brand in DC and I’m also a musician. My brand originally started on Tumblr and progressed over to Instagram where my following and supporter base got bigger. I’m trying my best to be a famous fashion model and model for bigger more well-known brands but because of my particular look and being that I am apart of the lgbt community and that I’m a masculine presenting female it’s been a little bit of a struggle especially finding bookings. I’m moving to downtown LA soon to push my goal of being a well-known model to the next level.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth journey. I’ve struggled with my confidence in the past and not seeing my full potential and I’ve struggled with peers using me for what I attract and with people’s jealousy too. I’ve struggled with just having a big heart and being naive in the past. I’m stronger and wiser now though and I kinda wish I knew then what I know now. It’s also been really hard to break into the modeling industry because of being that I’m lesbian female who is masculine presenting it’s harder to break into the industry without having to change your looks and I just always want to remain me no matter if it’s no the norm. I just feel like someone will notice and want to work with me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think what sets me apart from others is my music. I’m a rapper and I do a lot of melodic hip hop music. I’ve been told I’m in my own lane and it sounds so different from a lot of things. I don’t really speak a lot of patios but I just love the vibes and dancehall is one of my favorite genres of music and I appreciate the culture behind them. It’s also special to me because my grandmother who is 88 is Caribbean so she gets really happy when I make that type of music. I think what also sets me is my big heart. I show so much love and I truly care about everyone that supports me. I’m most proud of my song “Face to Face” it was my first dancehall pop song and it such a vibe and a great experience and I’m glad I was able to write something that was so lit.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
This is a hard one because I’m unapologetically an open book lol I don’t hind a lot of things. I would have to say I have dreams about running a big club one day idk I love the party scene, I love people and good energy and it seems dope to be the head of something like that.
