Daily Inspiration: Meet Saana Laigren Campana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Saana Laigren Campana.

Hi Saana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always been really interested in performing. When I was a little girl I used to dress up in costumes and play different characters. I started acting when I was 13 years old. I joined a youth theater group in my hometown. I fell in love with theater and have been on that journey ever since. I just recently got back to acting, after taking some time off to study for a degree in my other passion: I am becoming a legal administrative assistant. Luckily, right now I am able to combine my work as an actor, my family life and my studies.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The most struggles I have faced have been with my self confidence and whether I believe in myself or not. I am a perfectionist, especially when it comes to my craft. It was also hard to grow up seeing such a narrow representation of women on the big screen. I have been really happy to see how there is so much more diversity these days, I was always really self conscious about my accent, but I have been happy to recently receive many auditions that specifically request my natural accent. I am also doing my best to fight against narrow beauty standards!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an actor. I have worked in both film and theater for several years. Just recently I have tapped into commercials and voiceovers a little bit more. I am the most proud of the several films that I and my friend and colleague Tapio Antere have created together and that have made it to many international film festivals. During the pandemic, we worked together on two different films that both were successful In festivals.

How do you think about happiness?
My husband and three cats make me the happiest. I love our little family of two humans and three very goofy cats. Besides that, spending time in nature, cooking homemade meals to family and friends and calls from my home country, Finland, make me happy.
