Daily Inspiration: Meet Ryan Garcia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Garcia.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born and raised in North East Los Angeles, I grew up seeing my brother play backyard metal shows every weekend. Over the years, I slowly went through the common instruments (piano, guitar & bass) until I decided to try drums. I played in garage bands throughout high school, attended Pasadena City College for a year and attended Los Angeles College of Music in 2013 to obtain a degree in music performance. Since then, I’ve offered my services for session work, teaching & tech services. I currently play in SoCal Alternative group “Suns of Cali”, working on our 2nd EP.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every art form has its struggles, in my experience the most common obstacle I come across would be other’s priorities. Whatever you decide to excel in, learn the language & practice the abilities you need to get the job done.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I guess I specialize in situations where the artist needs both percussion and drums. In those situations, I most commonly fill both seats and perform to the best of my ability according to what the music calls for.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Be a good person, know your worth and say yes as much as possible.
