Daily Inspiration: Meet RJ Bieti

Today we’d like to introduce you to RJ Bieti.

Hi RJ, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always loved taking photos, but I really started to get into it my Senior year when I upgraded to a Canon 6d. After I got that camera, I was taking photos and filming everything. My best friend became a freelancer and would pay me to come around and help him. I learned so much, but instead of going into film or photography. I decided to go to college for Computer Science and get my degree. During college, I needed money and I found it was easier to take photos or work with video to make money than get a job on campus. All of this work led to an internship with a large YouTube channel called the Fung Bros. As I finished up my degree, they offered me a job to be the director of their YouTube channel. I worked them for a while but decided to become a freelancer so that I can explore the world of photo and video. I have been freelancing since 2019 and it has been an amazing experience. Currently, I am working with different clients around the world, but one of my main goals is creating interesting and impactful documentaries. I have learned that I really enjoy telling other people’s stories. It is definitely hard to make money on documentaries, so I will be continuing to work with clients. I have taken a lot of risks along the way but I am lucky because most of them paid off. It is difficult to be successful if you are half in and half out. From my experience, you really have to jump in completely to really have your decisions pay off.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My experience has definitely been a roller coaster. I have really amazing months and really terrible ones. If you like security and routines, then this is not for you. But when things go well. They go really well. I would say that acquiring clients is probably one of the biggest struggles, but I create really quality products and a lot of the jobs I do lead to a lot more work. So the biggest struggle is definitely the start. I have made so much progress in 3 years because I try to look for as much work as I can.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
It wasn’t the plan but I definitely specialize in food videos. I love food for it is really fun for me to create videos about food. I have done everything from food commercials to YouTube videos about food. During covid, I was actually able to help out some small restaurants by creating promotional videos for free. I think it is really important to help out your local small businesses.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I was fortunate enough to have a really good childhood, but something that really stands out to me is I would have sleepovers with my bestfriend where we would stay up all night watching movies and playing games, wake up and have a big breakfast and then our parents would take up to the golf course so we could play 18 holes.
