Daily Inspiration: Meet Renee Stahl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Stahl.

Renee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My mother tells me when I was a little girl she would find me singing in the bathroom mirror holding the hairbrush as if it were a microphone. From there, I moved into my room belting show tunes from the musicals I was in. I have released two solo CD’s Melancholy Pop and hopeful, romantic. I have written and sung on various trance tracks with European DJs.

In 2006 my friend Jeremy and I started a project for “children of all ages” called Renee and Jeremy. We have recorded four CD’s and are working on the 5th. From there came an offshoot called. Renee and Friends, a collection of collaborations with a notable array of singers, writers, and performers. I worked on two duo side projects with friends called Paper Flowers and Bright Light Low. In this last year, I started releasing solo singles. ” Until Tomorrow” came out in Oct 2020. In the middle of the pandemic, I brought my dad home to live with us in the final three months of his life. It was intense and heartbreaking. This song is about finding myself in the most vulnerable place. I could feel him holding on but knew we both had to let go. “Every Tear is a Prayer” is what came from that time. I wrote it with producer, Rich Jacques- who is also producing the new Renee and Jeremy CD coming out this spring.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
All in all, pretty smooth.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in harmony. I can hear it so clearly – I even sing with the vacuum cleaner (it’s a blessing and a curse). I am mostly known for my family music project called Renee and Jeremy. However, if you look up my name. The first thing that comes up is my work with well-known DJ’s in Europe. I am most proud of my children – I was fortunate to have them sing on my last Renee and Friends CD, Kindred. On my Renee and Friends project, I was fortunate to have had some incredible talent that I collaborated with, i.e.: Maya Rudolf, Ziggy Marley, Colin Hay, and more. I have sung on many CDs including, Alexi Murdoch, Lisa Loeb, and more. I love collaborating.

How do you think about luck?
I had a demo deal many years ago with Capitol Records. I was thrilled, everything was going so well then, poof, my A & R guy left. Was it bad luck or just timing? I am not sure. Looking back, I am so happy I had that experience.
