Daily Inspiration: Meet Reischel Sawyer-Cobb

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reischel Sawyer-Cobb.

Hi Reischel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The founder and CEO of ICANDO (a women empowerment brand). I am a “Passion-preneur” with a heart to encourage, inspire and empower women to live in their true purpose. I have always been very passionate about this. My passion is my purpose! My vision back in 2017 was initially to start a small mentoring program for young women because I saw a need for that generation. In June 2017, I decided to host a small vision board party with 5-7 young ladies. Well, three young ladies actually committed and showed up to the party. The party turned out to be a great success and the young ladies were excited and inspired by one another. As I started to put my thoughts together and put things into place, I took a deeper look at my journey and each season of my life. I realized that there is a greater need to inspire ALL women in every aspect of their lives utilizing various tools/methods. My favorite Bible scripture is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. With this scripture as my driving force, my vision became clearer and greater which led me to create the brand, ICANDO.

Years ago, I earned a college degree in Business Administration Accounting all while maintaining roles as a wife, mother as well as working full time. As with most women, Juggling these roles all at the same time presented many challenges but It was Philippians 4:13 that kept me inspired that I CAN do it. It was also women of the generation before me who encouraged, inspired and empowered me to do ALL that I was purposed to do. I come from a lineage of strong women. My mother, Barbara, has been my example of this my entire life. She has always been my utmost inspiration. My grandmothers Aola & Ora were also my examples. I watched these three women conquer and overcome many obstacles. They instilled that same drive and strength in me. I’ve also had two great men by my side, my husband Robbie and my dad Burnell. They both have always affirmed me, stood by me and pushed me to be all that I desire. I am who I am today because of all of them. Therefore it’s my time to take what I have received and sow into others.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, thus far the road hasn’t been rocky at all. It was just a matter of me deciding in my mind that I CAN DO this and that it’s time. Now, initially I did experience some fear, fear of not being able to connect which in my mind would be failing at fulfilling my purpose. I’d say one struggle is making sure that I’m reaching the right women and girls. I guess the “how” of it. Oftentimes people aren’t ready so you have to meet them where they are. I’ve had this happen before where I put my heart into sowing into someone but I didn’t feel or see that I actually reached them. But I had to quickly learn that once I plant the seed, the plant will grow in its own time. I can still water it along the way. Again, I went back to “I CAN DO ALL THINGS” and those fears or doubts went away.

One experience that I initially perceived as a challenge but soon realized it was an extra push to move forward with my purpose, was my grandmother’s battle with cancer. She was diagnosed in early 2017, the same year I was given the vision of ICANDO. I watched her fight that battle with so much strength and dignity. No matter what was thrown her way, she continued to fight even when the doctor’s informed her that she had only a few months left to live. The entire time she fought, I watched in awe because I couldn’t believe how this woman over 80 years old had so much strength. BUT, I knew where her strength was coming from. I began to think, if she can fight this battle daily like a champion, then I surely must have that same strength indwelled within me. Again, “I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me” came to mind. Well on the morning of October 7th that same year, I sat by my grandmother’s bedside holding her hand. She smiled at me as she grabbed my hand tight. Seconds later I felt her hand loosen its’ grip on mine and her eyes closed. She then took her last breath, I was crushed! After I grieved this life-changing moment, I started to wonder why I was there at that moment to watch this happen. The deeper I thought into it, I realized that final moment was her transferring her strength into me because she no longer needed it. It was her sowing a final seed into me. Again, my favorite verse came to mind. I hold this experience dear to my heart and as I began preparing to launch ICANDO, I thought of this moment often. In this moment, she empowered, inspired and encouraged me just as she has all of my life, but this moment was that final push I needed from her.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, there’s two parts to my work. I’ve been working in the Accounting field since 1997, currently as Director of Accounting for an insurance company. You know how many people say “I hate my job”? Well, I’m one of the few that will tell you “I LOVE my job”. I love the field that I’m in because it’s not just a job, it’s a career. It’s what I went to college to pursue and I achieved it. BUT I didn’t achieve it alone. My boss since 1997, happened to be an empowered woman who took me under her wing. She mentored me, encouraged me, inspired me and offered me numerous opportunities for growth in my career that led to where I am today with the company. The other part of my work is my passion, the ICANDO brand that I just launched on August 1, 2020, which is also my birthday. ICANDO is a brand and product line of apparel, accessory and cosmetics. Our passionate mission is to inspire women to walk and live in their true purpose.

Empowering and fostering confidence, boldness and truth, our brand exudes the power and ability to overcome every great obstacle with strength and resilience. Our products and overall service delicately address the desire to grow the inner woman while also uniquely enhancing the outer appearance. Our core values are: Truth, honesty, positivity, community and passion. Our hope is that many are touched, empowered, inspired and motivated by our presence, our inspirational posts and our inspirational products. This year we’ve started the ICANDO Book Club, Our ICANDO Scholarship Fund, Our 1st annual ICANDO Women Empowerment Conference to be held on August 1st and the launch of our cosmetics line is coming this summer. In 2020, we began assisting women shelters within Los Angeles County with donations of women’s necessity products as well as our ICANDO products. Also, this year we will continue with the development and advancement of our mentoring program.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My two Favorite books are:
1. “Trust” by Iyanla Vanzant. She’s also my favorite author. I pretty much LOVE everything that she does. I always tell people that she’s my mentor and doesn’t even know it. She has transformed my life over the past five years and more.
2. “The One-Minute Money Mentor for Women: 21 Strategies for Financial Empowerment” by Deborah Smith Pegues.
