Daily Inspiration: Meet Nat Souza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nat Souza.

Hi Nat, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I kind of never know how to answer this question haha because I’ve kind of always been an artist in one way or another. But I started actually pursuing photography/videography/filmmaking in about 2015. My end goal is truly to just be a rockin’ DoP but I am also very interested in photography, art direction/set design, puppeteering, screenwriting, and directing. I kind of just do everything here and there and learn on my own and as I go.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Hahaha no, not really, not at all. Most of my struggles come from within to be honest. I tend to be very hard on myself, like most artists. I had a rough year last year, again, like most artists. I feel like I “let myself go” and really didn’t create much that I was happy with. But truly, I have met some incredible, creative, and supportive people who have helped me gain opportunities and knowledge and I’m super grateful for that. I know this might be a little weird but I really feel like I need to thank Dorian Electra, Weston Allen, and Mood Killer for literally most of the things I was able to do in 2019, therefore allowing me so many more opportunities and for being so kind and uplifting. Thank you three so much for real. <3 But as for right now, I am actually feeling very optimistic and refreshed? I have a few things on the horizon that I am excited about!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I kind of dabble in a little bit of everything. My main shtick right now is photography, I’ve been doing more “test shoots” and trying to learn more/up my game. I also love being an art director and/or production designer!! I’ve worked on a few short films that my friends have made for the 48 hr Film Festival and also a music video for Mood Killer, which I am very proud of. I also am working to be a director of photography/cinematographer, as I refuse to go to school for it because I simply can’t learn in school environments. I’ve been doing some 1st AD/B-cam work which helps me learn as well as they are amazing opportunities. I also am very much into puppets, fabricating puppets and puppeteering in general. I got the chance to work on an amazing film in 2019 as a puppeteer and truly it was magical. I’ve kind of put that on the back burner but plan to pick that up again and do more with that soon!

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are always in flux considering everything but, I am currently in the process of moving to Hollywood!! I have a few art direction projects in the works and I’ve been also writing a few different short films that I hopefully will make happen this year! I’m always also taking bookings for literally anything, if you need an art director, photographer, videographer, or even a production assistant, I am available and always looking for work, haha.
