Daily Inspiration: Meet Monica Landén

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Landén.

Hi Monica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m 27 years old and born and raised in Finland. I began traveling from a young age: starting with a trip to Australia without my family when I was only 13 years old and even attending school there for a while just to experience it. I was part of the Miss Finland tour (top 10) in 2015 and after that I became interested in visiting America to see the possibilities I would find here! I started off in New York City and then made my way to Los Angeles, where I eventually met my boyfriend Gabriel Padilla. We moved together almost instantly after meeting each other and have been traveling and living in various cities and countries (USA, Mexico, and Finland) ever since. About three years after Gabriel and I met, my lifelong dream of getting a puppy finally came true and we got little Roxy when she was just eight weeks old. We created an Instagram account for her so as to act as a digital scrapbook, but over time her audience grew and grew and it became a full-time job for me! Since it was a lot of work running my own and her account at the same time, and I felt like I wanted to create something different and unique, I eventually decided to combine the pages to tell the story of Roxy and my life together. Our audience received it very well and the continuous positive feedback keeps me inspired to always stay consistent in telling our story in the future!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had an extremely difficult time with the immigration to be able to stay in America with Gabriel and to be able to work and now that I’m here, it’s really difficult for me to be so far away from my friends and family and have no local safety net.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do my page @WithRoxy full time. I have gotten good at taking photos and editing them while creating content for the page and also managed to train Roxy into enjoying and being good at posing for the camera. I don’t know any other page in the US that is similar to mine and Roxy’s and that is what sets us apart!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Of course Gabriel has been a huge help with everything (taking our photos, doing all the technical side of things and of course emotional support! Another big help has been my dad in Finland who has always been extremely supporting in whatever I do (not taking the usual route of working a job from 9 to 5 is often judged and doesn’t receive much support and encouragement) but my dad has always been there and excited about little accomplishments I have achieved among the way. Also, my high-school friend in Finland, Anu, has supported me on my journey every step of the way and always helped me see the positive in choosing a different route in life.
