Daily Inspiration: Meet Martin Mway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martin Mway.

Hi Martin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a New York City-based photographer, creative director working in the fields of fashion and beauty. I began pursuing photography in 2018 shooting film, then I moved to digital photography and started my journey as a fashion and beauty photographer. I am thrilled to have a job that allows me to explore my creativity while still doing things that I love, which is photography. During my time as a photographer, I have met so many creative individuals that helped me along the way to get inspired and to work creatively. My work has been published by various magazines such as GMARO magazine, PUMP magazine, Shuba magazine, and Vogue Italia. My goal is to show the beauty and strength of the people while still capturing the important moments of them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was in between because there are different factors that contribute to working as a photographer. Such as making a living out of photography and being financially stable during a pandemic, it was not easy but I’m glad that I have not given up on my dreams which is photography.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional photographer based in New York City, I specialize in fashion and beauty photography. I am proud of how I am able to make my dream come true through photography, I get to create mood boards, discuss my ideas with my teams and then make my ideas come true in real life. What sets me apart from others is that I like to combine commercials with a visual story behind it. A lot of times, my work was inspired by a moment in life or inspired by a movie I’ve watched.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes, I have become more optimistic and think positively. I learned that whatever your feeling right now, just know that it is not forever and it will always be better.
