Daily Inspiration: Meet Lauren Darlene

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Darlene.

Hi Lauren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in Palo Alto, California, I grew up around music and entertainment at an early age. My father was a music producer and signed to MC Hammer’s record label before I was born. I observed my father’s artistry and realized I had a passion for music and to entertain. Growing up a teenager in Detroit, Michigan with my mother, she knew I had a gift and bought me studio equipment to record my own songs produce beats, then enrolled me in Youth Performing Arts Schools. I moved to Atlanta, GA to further pursue my dreams of acting and music. I attended LS Acting Studios for coaching and began to book background roles, stand-in and photo-double positions. In 2020, I booked my first Series Regular role called “SELF” which is now released on Amazon Prime & Tubi. Booking my first role when Covid-19 hit was monumental to me because it prepared me to have hope when the world was at a halt. I continued to train, audition, and network while the world slowly opened back up. In 2021, I’ve been blessed to book my first TV/Starz Network Co-Star role on Step Up Season 3 which has not aired yet. Since then, I’ve moved back to California to continue on my journey in Showbiz.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been a challenge for sure. I would say when you don’t have representation as far as an agent or manager, you have to be your own agent. Literally hustle, be your own MUA, stylist, promoter, publisher, the list goes on, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It teaches you to have tough skin and you’ll already be prepared for the next level. My mom is my biggest supporter and has taught me to always encourage myself. When you’re looking around and seeing what other actors have it’ll cause you to look at what you don’t and compare your story to others when your story can only be your story, it cannot be compared. I’ve learned to show gratitude for all that I have because life could always be worse but God has bigger plans. That doesn’t mean I don’t believe in struggle, when I’m not having a good day, I give myself time to be in that state, breathe, then I release and continue on because life is about progression. There’s a reason why the windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror because what’s behind you is not nearly as important as what’s in your future. Acting is what I love, and when you do what you love, it won’t feel like work.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Being an Actress/Artist and having the opportunity to live through art keeps my blood flowing. I love being on set performing and living through a character. If I’m not booked for a role, I’m in the studio recording music, if I’m not recording music I’m writing lyrics, listening to beats, going to fundamental workshops and events, I’m constantly involved in the entertainment industry because it is my passion. Rather I’m booked for a project or supporting my colleagues. I’m currently working on an EP, soon to drop my first single in 2022 on all streaming platforms. I love that I can write music based on real life experiences. I’m most proud of my growth that I never let outside noise keep me stagnant. To go from background work, doing stand-in work, to now booking speaking roles becoming SAG-Eligible doesn’t define my worth but I hope it can show others it’s possible. What sets me apart is that I’m still teachable, I’m still a student and I know there’s more wisdom to gain. I started an LLC in 2020 called “Not Afraid Of Art LLC” which I plan to expand my business in helping artists live freely and truly through their art.

How do you define success?
I define success as doing something you love and it actually working out for you. Never give up on your dreams even when others don’t believe in you. Staying consistent on your journey, it doesn’t matter how long it takes as long as you don’t give up. Success is not based on what you have but the abundance you have on the inside of you.
