Daily Inspiration: Meet Kristine Cancio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristine Cancio.

Hi Kristine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I found my culinary calling during a trip in Napa Valley, California inspired by its wineries and countless culinary offerings. The following year, I moved to my family’s native land, Manila, Philippines to attend the top culinary school in the country.

Upon graduating, I started working as a chef and chef instructor both in California and Manila, as well as running a culinary program in Orange County. My love of food, travel, and teaching encouraged me to create and host my own food/travel show on YouTube called Eats More Fun with Kristine. The show chronicles my culinary adventures through different cities and regions of the Philippines learning and sharing about the food, culture and history of the country. We just finished releasing our third season and working on the fourth to be released in 2021.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say that the biggest struggle is filming in a far away country like the Philippines yet living in the USA. My film crew is also based in the Philippines so trying to match everyone’s schedule, including the food spots and restaurants where we film, can be a challenge. It’s a labor of love and we love doing it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In college, I graduated with a B.A. in Communications with a focus on TV/Film. After that, I decided I wanted to be a chef so I sold my car, broke up with my boyfriend and moved my life across the world and attended culinary school in the Philippines where I graduated top of my class. What I have specialized in is being a culinary instructor. Speaking in front of people comes naturally to me. I would say that what I am most proud of is combining my two worlds – filming and my culinary life as I speak in front of the camera sharing my travels and food adventures through my show. Doing just that is what sets me apart.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I have been to 31 countries because food and travel have really opened my eyes to how much beauty is out there. I’m an avid snowboarder, hiker and I play around with the guitar too. Speaking of music, I have performed in over a dozen musicals and plays both here in the US and the Philippines.
