Today we’d like to introduce you to Katryna Ton.
Hi Katryna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Sacramento, CA and I still call NorCal my home. I am a first-generation Vietnamese-American and am extremely proud of my heritage and culture. It is something I continue to appreciate as I grow older. Growing up, I had always loved fashion, but honestly, I didn’t know how to style myself, but something my mom always taught me that it is better to feel comfortable wearing classic styles than to buy trendy clothes that do not stand the test of time.
I believe that is something that has shaped my personal style to this day. I started really exploring my style after graduating college when I got my first job working at Nordstrom. I really loved that job because I was surrounded by other people who loved fashion and it taught me about current trends, how to style outfits, and fashion “rules” to elevate my style. I’d say that’s where my true love for fashion and styling was born. I would describe my style as classic but modern. Classic styles are what I’ve always loved, but it’s also fun to sprinkle in current trends. When I first started my Instagram, @callherclassy, I wanted to share my outfits with people, but as I continued creating content, I realized that it became more of a creative outlet for me. I love fashion and styling, but more than that, I love how a good outfit can make you FEEL. The goal of my page is to inspire other women to look good and feel good through fashion beauty, and lifestyle. Currently, I work as a full-time #womanintech by day and I am a graduate student pursuing my MBA by night. Building my career and furthering my education have always been pillars in my life and I am passionate about growing myself professionally and continuously learning so that I can achieve my goals. I plan to continue working my way up the corporate ladder, but if it’s in the cards, I’d love to pursue a career in social/digital media with the growth of my personal brand.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say things have been hard, but it’s definitely been hard work. Social media is not my full-time job, so with the free time that I have, I love to create because it keeps me inspired. The biggest struggle I’d say is mental because there are so many people on social media who want the same things. It can be difficult not to compare yourself to others, especially if you see that someone could be growing faster than you or doing something better than you. What helps me with this is knowing that everyone’s life is different. No one’s journey as a content creator is ever going to be the same as anyone else’s so I need to focus on what I can control and continuously have to remind myself to create content that is authentic to me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a very career-driven person. I have been working in the tech industry for the past five years and am proud of how I have developed and grown in my professional career. What’s really cool is that I currently work at an influencer marketing software company as an account manager, so I get to combine my technical knowledge and professional business acumen with my passion for social media and content creation into a job. Growing professionally is also a big reason why I decided to go back to school and pursue my MBA. I personally believe that education is a factor in the success of my career and I hope that getting my master’s propels me forward. I think what sets me apart from others is my ambition and drive. I have a strong creative spirit and motivation to succeed in everything I do, which fuels my work ethic and drive to achieve the goals I set for myself.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
One thing I have noticed recently is that everyone wants to do their own thing, whether that’s starting their own business or having a side hustle. People are realizing that they can create the life they want through social media. Another trend I am noticing is that brands are starting to realize the power of micro-influencers and smaller creators like myself because our audiences are more engaged, our opinions are trusted, and we create quality content. I am excited to see the opportunities it brings smaller creators like me and my friends.
