Daily Inspiration: Meet Jessie Yarborough

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Yarborough.

Hi Jessie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m the cliche of a small town North Carolina girl who moved to the big city to follow my dreams. Basically, since the time I was five I had this dream of doing hair and makeup in Hollywood, with no real idea of how I could ever, and if it was even a real job. I began doing makeup for school plays, reading books by writers that had careers I admired like Bobbi Brown and started reaching out to locals creating to see how I could join. I moved to LA at 19 and started reaching out to Craigslist ads and artists I wanted to assist and did every job I possibly could. Eventually after years of persistence, I found a groove and my niche and became a full-time makeup artist. As I discovered my niche, I started specializing in men’s grooming and natural glam and am so grateful to be in a place I do what I love full time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has most definitely not been a smooth road. I moved to LA with no money and didn’t have the financial support to back me up if anything went wrong. I wanted to prioritize makeup but still needed to pay my bills so I lived extremely minimal. I didn’t have a car so I was taking the bus to my jobs, which I was hardly making any money doing but I wanted the experience. I was at some pointing putting in 90 hours a week, barely sleeping, but knew the sacrifice would pay off. I sacrificed a lot of the normal “20 years old” things to prioritize working and following my dreams.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a makeup artist. I am most known for my men’s grooming and natural glam aesthetic. I have really created a niche of skin that looks like skin and accentuating the natural beauty of my clients rather than transforming them into a version of them they don’t feel is real. I spent a lot of time trying to be the artist I thought everyone needed but am really proud of myself for finding the style I genuinely love and trusting the people who hire me are coming to me for the artistry I provide.
