Daily Inspiration: Meet Isaac Joel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaac Joel.

Hi Isaac, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I consider myself a student to the craft. I don’t think anyone truly masters and perfects it because there’s always something new to learn. I have been a full-time filmmaker for the last five years and yet it feels like I have been doing this my entire life. I always sought out to create feature-length films and my journey to that road has been a long one. I became a certified Director, Producer, and Screenwriter through Los Angeles film connection. At 19, I renovated a building and opened my own fully-operated photography studio. After a year, I decided to close it so that I may pursue traveling for my work. It has taken me to many places I never thought I’d be able to visit. From directing music videos, short films, weddings, commercials, fashion editorials, and even consulting as a producer on other’s projects. My inspiration comes from a very vulnerable place. I can watch and appreciate many different styles of filmmaking because at the end of the day, we’re expressing our individual ideas towards human stories.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It doesn’t matter how slow you go as long as you don’t stop. Every mistake has a valuable lesson to offer. I was homeless for a period in my life, feeling very alone and it was hard not letting it affect my work and behavior. I have fought against those who plagiarized my work trying to profit off of me. I struggled to find my identity as a filmmaker and often went through writer’s block where absolutely no ideas are coming through my mind. But through those challenges, you always come out on the other side better.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am known for the visions that I am able to bring to life. The way I see the world is vastly different than most. My Media company Opus Vita offers services from videography, photography, social media management, editing, website building, graphic design, etc. I’m very proud of the positive feedback I receive about the fast turn around time. This sets me apart from others because clients don’t want to wait three months for their video or pictures back. Everything is instant and I stay on top of your project because it matters to you, so it matters to me.

Any big plans?
My short film, Shadow Valley, is receiving awards from festivals for Best Short Film, Best Actor, and Best Poster. It will be premiered on Amazon Prime once the festival circuit is over and I’m very excited for people to finally see what our amazing crew put together. Continuing this road that I have paved, I am pursuing my next script. It will be a feature-length film that is a unique take on the heist genre and we’re hoping to start filming this year.
