Daily Inspiration: Meet Garry Clare

Today we’d like to introduce you to Garry Clare.

Hi Garry, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When the Pandemic hit in 2020, everything shut down, and I had to walk away from my fashion brand. It was the same time that I had also decided to follow one of my other passions and finally become a licensed Barber.

Although Covid created so many obstacles for me to overcome, I was able to finally get my Barber license and have been working at a shop in my hometown of Inglewood, California. It feels great to be able to practice my craft and give back to my community in this way.

My next goal is to work in Film and TV as a barber and hairstylist, and I am working on obtaining my Cosmetology license in order to do so. I’m looking forward to seeing my name in the credits of some of my favorite shows and movies.

I’m on a mission to get to the next level in my Barber career and am looking forward to the journey.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road I’ve taken to get where I am today has not been an easy one. Covid really turned my life upside down and there were moments where I wasn’t sure what I would and should do, but I kept persevering.

Luckily, my wife remained my biggest cheerleader and was a constant support system for me as I found the strength to overcome all the obstacles and fears I encountered.

Once I got my Barber’s license, it was another challenge to find clients and get them to trust me with something as personal to them as their hair. Soon, however, I was able to book clients, and since then everything has come together. I have a roster of happy clients, and I continue to hone my skills so that I can continue to offer exceptional service.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

What were you like growing up?
I have always been interested in fashion and hair. As a kid, I learned to cut my own hair and design my own clothing. I was inspired by the TV shows and Movies I watched growing up in the ‘90s. A few of my favorites were House Party, Martin, In Living Color, A Different World, and Family Matters.

Seeing people who looked like me on the TV screen gave me so much joy and happiness that my culture was being represented…

So, today, I understand why I have love in my heart for what I’m doing now as a barber, and look forward to being able to work on set and play a role in helping to bring those stories to life.
