Today we’d like to introduce you to Elle Keller.
Hi Elle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I originally started out on the other side of the camera as a model. However, after hearing so many horror stories about unsafe shoots, I decided to turn my attention to the other side of the camera. I wanted to give other womxn of all ethnicities and body types the opportunity to have a safe environment to shoot sets.
I bought a camera, read a lot, and watched a lot of videos. I went to Photo Meets, offered free and discounted shoots, and had some wonderful friends let me shoot them.
I started out doing lifestyle shoots, but migrated to boudoir when I began to fall in love with how clients viewed themselves in a different light after receiving the images.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Have you ever carried two strobes, one led light, three light stands, a camera and props onto two buses and the LA metro to get to a studio? It’s freaking heavy and takes at least two hours. Also, I bet you didn’t even know there was a metro, did you?
Besides just that, I don’t know anyone who has a particularly smooth road when trying to become an entrepreneur. I am a one woman show ,which means I am my own social media manager, marketer, location scouter, preparations, negotiations, accountant, and shooter and editor. I am also self-taught and trying to constantly learn how to grow and better my craft.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Elle Keller Photography as a Female Photographer, I offer other womxn a safe place to shoot. This is particularly essential for boudoir or “accounting pages”.
I also love being your hype girl. For me, there is no better feeling than someone seeing their images and realizing how fabulous they are.
I’m huge into finding your own self-love whether that means you meet beauty standards or not. I believe most of us have unconventional looks, and that makes us all unique and worth celebrating.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
There’s many things I’ve learned along the journey, and I believe most have to be learned through experience. I would, however, recommend to be open to where your journey leads and trust your gut.
