Daily Inspiration: Meet Dre Carter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dre Carter.

Hi Dre, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my journey at a young age of about 4/5 writing poems and little raps with my brothers. I watched my pops cruise thru the industry and I wanted to follow that path. After I watched a close friend of mine died when I was 14, I decided life was too short and I’m going to go 10,000 with this music lifestyle. By 16/17, I moved from South Jersey with my mother & brothers to Philadelphia with my pops to stay out of trouble and focus on my music career. Fast forward to now, I’m working on my first album under my pop label “Tough Struggle Ent.” Antonio Velaz suggest to my pops move me & tough struggle to Hollywood to really let the world know we didn’t come to play and we’ve been back and forth cooking up ever since!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I grew up getting into a lot of fights. Split family homes will do that to you sometimes. I watched a lot of my family and friends die over the years between drugs & violence. Even when my parents tried to move me away from these things, they still followed. As I got older, the struggles got a little different. My last year of high school, I went from a predominately black school hanging with the homies to a predominantly white school outside of Philly. I started feeling left out and not really fitting into their lifestyle choices. It wasn’t until I realized these kids love rap and used that to my advantage.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m songwriter, artist & clothing designer. Everything I do, I do with my own hands. All my music & merch I personally make myself. What sets me apart is most people reply on the machine, and I was trained to outwork the machine.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see me at the top of my industry in the next 5-10 years. Running the game as one of, if not the best artist/songwriter. I’ll be known as the people’s choice.
