Daily Inspiration: Meet Courtney Leday

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Leday.

Hi Courtney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, thanks for having me! My name is Courtney Leday and I am originally from Chicago. As cliche as it sounds, I’ve always had a passion for fashion. I went to college for radiology, however, two semesters before I was going to graduate, I switched my major to fashion. Crazy, I know. I was going to a school in downtown Chicago that ended up closing down and it wasn’t accredited. As discouraging as that was, it was just the push I needed. In August 2015, I woke up one morning and said “today is the day”, packed my car and drove over 29 hours to LA. When life gives you lemons, you know. Yes, I was terrified but I had to take that opportunity and chase my dreams. Within a few months, I was interning for a stylist, which soon after led to me becoming an editorial stylist, styling actors and actresses for different magazines. I’ve met so many amazing people and will forever be grateful for the opportunities I’ve experienced. I also just launched my own cosmetic line – LeDay Cosmetics. Becoming a business owner has been an exciting journey and I can’t wait to see its growth! I’m just a girl from the South Side of Chicago, living out her dreams in LA.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’d love to say it’s been a smooth ride but no. Ha. I moved to LA alone, I didn’t know anyone. My hustle had to be in overdrive when it came to meeting new people and networking. One of the biggest struggles has been not having family around. It’s hard when you’re going through something and your support system is over 1,000 miles away.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a fashion editor. I create concepts/stories through fashion for magazines. I coordinate looks that support those stories for photo shoots. Aside from that, I am also an entrepreneur. I own LeDay Cosmetics, a cosmetic brand that offers a unique beauty experience by providing quality and affordable products for ALL shades.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I am very lucky to have met some genuine people throughout this journey. Not being from here, it’s very easy to feel out of place or like an outsider. They’ve really helped LA feel like home.
