Daily Inspiration: Meet Cortni’ Davis-Jackson and Tiffani Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cortni’ Davis-Jackson and Tiffani Smith.

Hi Cortni’ and Tiffani, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We’ve known each other for years and as our friendship developed, we started doing music together… singing groups, backing each other in live performances and we were even blessed to be able to take the ‘American Idol’ journey together, making it to “Hollywood Week.” A few years after American Idol, I (Cortni’) took a step back completely to re-group while Tiffani continued to record Demos for producers, sing at weddings, community events, etc. As life progressed, our lives took different turns and we began starting families of our own and started to focus on that aspect of our lives, however, there was still a “void” so-to-speak, in both of our lives.

During the ‘Craze’ that is CoronaVirus, while working from home, I (Cortni’) began to feel that void even more so than before. While sitting at home one day, I realized I had all of these talents and ideas that were being wasted. I sat on the sofa all day jotting down every thought and idea I had. There had to have been about five ideas that have/had huge potential and I needed to pick one to start with. Being that music has always been my first love, I naturally gravitated to the idea having to do with making music. Jingle Writing… and it felt RIGHT! I began my work and research on starting such a company and building a brand. While I knew this would be a LOT of work/research/time, etc., I was ready for the task and more than capable. So, the journey began.

Tiffani and I ran into each other at a baby shower, in October 2020 and (while hiding in the back as to remain socially distanced, lol), we were able to chat and catch up. I stated that I was going to start a Jingle Company and low and behold, she was aiming for the exact same. In 2017, Tiffani dabbled in Jingle writing a bit and knew that was the path she wanted to pursue and made the suggestion that we start the business/journey together. Given our friendship, chemistry, talents and love of music, it was a no-brainer! We’ve known each other for years, work well together, trust each other and share the same passion for the art of music – so the Jingle Lingo journey began!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Considering that we are a new start-up company, stepping into the competitive world of music, we can say it has been relatively smooth… for a start-up and newbies to the game, at least. As of this moment, the biggest “struggles” so-to-speak – would be gaining knowledge/researching all of the ins and outs relating to music (outside of our normal realm)… building clientele, being competitive, learning the curve with marketing on the Social Media platforms, and learning production – allowing us the ability to complete phase one of production for our clients, in-house.

This is teaching us a great deal of patience as well! When you know you have something GREAT and want to share with the world, but… it’s all in timing and what you put into it. We definitely cannot leave out that we are women trying to step into a mostly male-dominated industry during a pandemic. We are passionate and focused. We have to stand firm on our dealings and demand the same respect we give.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Jingle Lingo is an all-purpose media and advertising company specializing in jingles for brands, commercials, businesses/companies, television, radio, voice-overs and demos. However, we would love to get into writing and singing for movie soundtracks. We are known for creating “Jingles That Hit Like A Single” and delivering catchy content that will have listeners singing and dreaming about your brand. Music is EMOTION and people buy/tune-in based on emotion. Our jingles are catchy and promote “Feel Good Music.”

We are most proud of our business ethics, passion and respect for one another as business partners. What sets us apart from others is we are two young African-American women determined to fulfill our passion while making all of our client’s wishes come true. Jingle Lingo caters to small businesses who may not have a large advertising budget to market their brand. Our jingles are driven by soul with rich harmonies and topped off with poetic lyrics. Creating jingles that are not only catchy but that also Feel Good, stand-out and are memorable.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The qualities and characteristics that contribute to our success are humility, compassion, an open ear/mind and patience.

Our love for music also plays a huge role. Music lives extremely deep in the both of us and is constantly the center of just about everything we do. No matter the circumstance, we tend to break out into song and just have a good time with it!
