Daily Inspiration: Meet Chriselda Sonnier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chriselda Sonnier.

Hi Chriselda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I had went to a modeling class and one of the models there sent me a casting call to go to. It was the first casting call I’ve ever been to so I was super nervous but I went and ended up being casted for two designers and walked in a fashion show for the first time ever. From there, I started networking myself and making good connections with people that saw my potential, supported me and helped me get to where I am today. So basically, my career started because a model that was at the modeling class with me saw my potential pointed me in the right direction.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, honestly in the beginning it was a very stressful road. Sometimes I even questioned if I still even wanted to continue on with this career path. When I first started, I was living in Corpus Christi, Texas, which is a 3 1/2 hour drive from Houston which is where I was doing all of my modeling and acting at the time. I was making that commute every weekend to come to my Fashion Shows, Photoshoots, etc., so it really took a toll on my sleeping schedule, my job, my personal life and an even more toll on my car because of all the miles I was putting on it and all the gas money I was using to go to and from there. Now I’m married, and I moved here to California with my husband and he has been so supportive but being new to the area, I don’t know a lot of photographers, designers, agents, etc. so right now it’s hard for me to network myself and communicate with people that can help push me into the right direction to help with my modeling and acting career. So it’s almost like I’m starting from scratch again but thankfully this time, I have my husband here to support me and help me along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My line of work is modeling and acting but most of my work is modeling since that’s what I first started off doing. Although, right now I m trying to branch out more in the acting industry. I am known for my really long hair, everyone I meet always notices it first especially when it’s not in a bun since that’s my usual go-to hairstyle. Honestly, when they first see my hair they’re always surprised at how long it is and question if it’s real, especially now since I’ve dyed it blonde. Once they do realize this, it’s in fact my real hair they start referring to me as Rapunzel. With all the compliments and reactions I get from people due to the length & color of my hair, I’d that that’s what sets me apart from others. Especially since you don’t see a lot of models with their hair as long as mine, at least not from where I’m from so it really makes me stand out more from everyone else and I’m always remembered as the model with the really long hair. The thing I would say that I am most proud of is within the first year of my modeling and acting career, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to walk in Amsterdam Fashion Week for two designers. With that opportunity, I was also given the chance to go to Paris and at the age of 22, I was able to witness the Eiffel Tower in person. That was honestly a huge accomplishment for me and it made me realize that anything possible and I can do anything that I set my mind to.

What’s next?
My plans for the future is to continue on pursuing my modeling career as well as pushing myself more to get involved in the acting industry. I do have my own cosmetic business that I am trying to expand and promote called Rich Auntie Cosmetics. As well as try and start a family with my husband so I have a lot that I am trying to accomplish for the future and I feel now that I live in California, I will have a lot more opportunities for my career as well as my business. I am looking forward to meeting new people and networking myself so I can start back doing what I love most and be successful with my husband. The biggest changes for me is being married and moving back to California but that’s honestly been my biggest blessing. Here’s to the future.
