Daily Inspiration: Meet Andrea Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Johnson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I moved to LA in November 2019 to take over producing a now-defunct podcast. It was a storytelling podcast with three comedians. During the pandemic, I had the privilege of meeting and filming some amazing comedians like Lil Rel, Teddy Ray, Chris “CP” Powell, and KevonStage (just to name a few) to still provide content to our audience. Throughout that time, I continued working my day job as an Accountant. But I’ve always loved comedy since the Comic View days. I learned so much from working with those guys regarding stand-up comedy. In April 2021, I was requested to be a manager for an up-and-coming comedian from St. Louis, MO named Brandon Taylor. Since I believe in being able to relate to what I’m doing in all aspects, I finally jumped into the waters and stepped on stage in October 2021. Being a stand-up comedian while also being a manager helps me to better relate to Brandon and create and maintain those relationships in the comedy world out here in Los Angeles. Now, we have created Uncharted Entertainment! Brandon has been so amazing on this journey. He’s growing daily, recently booked to the Chocolate Sundaes stage at the Hollywood Laugh Factory. So we’re excited about that! We’re also excited to get more comedians with Unchartered. I’m still an Accountant by day, working as a consultant to organizations who need assistance on various projects. I’m able to truly have the best of both worlds.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Now you know there’s NEVER a smooth road on the way to success. Lol. The biggest struggle along the way was when I left my ex-husband to relocate to LA. I had to deal with such a big move and still grieve the end of my marriage while continuing to work, produce content, and adjust to L.A. I knew what I was coming to L.A. to do but didn’t know what was really here for me. On top of that, I’m an only child so it was very difficult trying to get my mom to adjust to me not being so close to her in Mississippi anymore.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Professionally, I’m a Senior Accountant for a finance/accounting consulting company. It’s funny but my specialty is everything. My professional resume consists of my work in accounting for various industries. I’ve worked in oil/gas, real estate, revenue, even a sales and use tax auditor for some time. Whatever type of accounting you’re doing, I can pretty much pick up on it and see how to make your operations more efficient. That’s mainly what I’m known for. I believe my wide range of knowledge of various industries is what sets me apart. You will find that many people get into one industry and they stick there. They may change companies but rarely industries. I have no problem with completely trying something new. I want to learn what EVERYBODY does! Outside of being an Accountant, I’m back in grad school obtaining my Master’s in Accounting. I offer tutoring in finance, accounting, AND French! I have a lot going on but I love it all!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Oh absolutely! I have some advice for those who are just starting out. From the professional side, I will say “Truly take an honest assessment of yourself to determine what you are good at so that you make the best use of your time here on earth.” What I wish I knew starting out? Hmm…I would definitely say “You don’t EVER have to stay somewhere that you’re not being appreciated and fairly compensated!” That’s a major one!
