Conversations with Tiemond Ruthland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiemond Ruthland.

Hi Tiemond, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in foster care. I went to federal prison at the age of 17 after doing my time, I wanted to make a change in my life and community…I have always been known for my dress style and love for fashion so I decided to start a brand called DEL RIO CLOTHING after four years of hard work and dedication, I ended up working in radio for Beakon radio LA. I have a mentoring program at Holmes avenue Elementary located in my old community. I have met and reunited with my biological mother who has now passed away, my biological sister and brother. I have worked with some big names in Hollywood like Shia Labeouf, I’m a youth coach at Slauson recreation center/park I’m a member of Slauson rec Theater I have been featured on rap albums. I have created jobs for the teenagers in my community. I have started and launched my own fashion awards every year Del Rio Clothing Company give away four trophies for best dress male and female I have teen modeling company called Troubled Youth overall, I just love giving back to the city of Los Angeles and my community

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road. I have had many problems and struggles along the way such as financial and just getting people to understand what I was doing and building also getting the people to understand how important it was to teach the youth college not jail cells!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a fashion stylist. I am most proud of stopping youth in the intercity from joining gangs my proudest moment was creating College not jail cells and reuniting with my biological family.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
To anyone new in the fashion industry, my advice would be to never give up and always follow your heart.
