Conversations with Stephanie Adams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Adams.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My love for ceramics started in high school. I was a shy girl… I felt safe & inspired in the clay room. From there, I continued on with clay, through college & into graduate school.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been mostly smooth sailing… everything seemed to fall into place & still is. I am very grateful.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make functional pottery… cups, bowls, etc. I love the process, it’s meditative to throw forms on the pottery wheel. I feel the creative flow when using underglaze to decorate the work. I may be most known for the use of gold luster on my pottery, it’s an overglaze that is hand-painted on the glazed pot then fired once more.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve learned to trust myself in the creative process. To make what feels good & right to me rather than what others tell me they would like to see! I feel it’s noticeable in the work if it’s made with passion & love.
