Conversations with Roy Kariok

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roy Kariok.

Hi Roy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Tel-Aviv, Israel, I picked up the guitar in an early age and immediately fell in love. after deciding that it was enough with school, in my teens I attended the renowned Rimon School of Music in Israel.

After receiving a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, I made the move to Boston to continue my education. After graduating in 2005 with honors, decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue my dream and move forward with my career.

During my time in LA I had the honor to play live touring the world and in the studio with amazing artists such as Toni Braxton, The Backstreet Boys, Rita Ora, Paula Abdul, Jay Sean, Keyshia Cole, Moshav Band, and more.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Is it ever a smooth road in LA?

I guess I am lucky to have childhood friends from Israel that are more like family by now here in LA that I always knew I can ask for advice & support with any obstacles and challenges.

I always feel like it’s a patience game in LA, have the patience to wait until the call comes, and when it does be sure to be 100% ready for it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Being a guitar player is more than my career, it’s kind of my identity. I’ve never had a “real job” other than playing guitar, so when I decided that I am more than a guitar player and want to double in other things it was a big life change for me,

In the last couple of years, I discovered that I’m curious about the tech world as well and decided to tap into some new adventures as well and today other than being a busy studio musician, being a part in different musical groups, I’m also a co-founder/partner in a royalty-free / AI & Machine learning startup in music world.

So, between recording for clients all over the world at my studio, playing live shows, being a CO-founder of a startup & all my triathlon training – I keep busy 🙂

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
One of my biggest passions and a HUGE part of my life (probably the thing that takes most of my time surprisingly) is Running, cycling & swimming, I was an overweight kid (moving to the US in 2002 I was 315Pounds, lost more than half of my body weight with sports and nutrition alone) from running marathons in different cities around the world and cycling up & down the canyons, this is where I think, get ideas, process things.

To see a goal (the closest one is the 2022 Acapulco IronMan race in April) and go for it, to be committed to the process and not give up when it’s getting hard is something that I learned and got from sport.

there’s nothing like the feeling I get when it’s 10 am and I already cycled 40miles and swim or run as well.

That’s my way to start the day right.
