Today we’d like to introduce you to Ro Johnson.

Hi Ro, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My full name is Sharona (yes like the song) but I now go by Ro. Beauty and fashion has always been a passion of mine since I was a little girl. Growing up my mother always taught me and my little sister the importance of self-care. It was a law in our house to always look our best no matter what we are going through. “A lady should always keep her hair and nails done.” As a child growing up getting my hair done by the top stylist in LA in the late 90s – early 2000s, my passion and creativity grew stronger and stronger for the beauty industry.

That brings me here to today, with all of the jobs, teaching, training, and mentorship I was able to learn a lot about the beauty industry. As it began to change in a very fast past, instead of trying to keep up with everything I took a step back to pay attention to what was needed. I took all of my experience with customer service, education, and training and mixed it up to create Sunflower Beauty Lounge.

At Sunflower Beauty Lounge we focus on the importance of healthy hair and skin. We want to bring out the best in every guest naturally. We work with each client to help them achieve their beauty goals. With our healthy hair package and vajacial treatment, we have been blessed to change lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This experience has never been a smooth road for me and still isn’t. I can say the hardest thing I dealt with was learning how to build my clientele at the beginning. When I first got my cosmetology license back in 2012 I was still trying to figure out my true purpose and mission in the beauty industry. I’m thankful for my lovely family that kept me busy and motivated to never give up. My business originally started in LA, I was taking a few clients here and there but I didn’t see myself growing. I knew it was so much more I wanted to give to the beauty industry.

In 2019 I decided to move my business to Orange County. Someone shared with me the huge need of black hair stylists and salons in the area. I started my business in Orange County at a Phenix Salon Suite. Growing my clientele this time was a lot different. I started to discover a new way to find my tragic audience. Business started to slowly grow and I was finally turning all my new customers/ clients into repeats.

With learning how to market and brand my business I was able to reach that tragic audience that needed to be at the beauty lounge. I made sure every day was a content day and I still keep this same mindset now.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Being the owner of Sunflower Beauty Lounge I wear many hats, but my specialties are hair care, luxury hair extensions, and skincare (wax services). I’m mostly known for our healthy hair package, and vajacial treatment (like a facial treatment for the bikini area).

I’m most proud of the growth and the impact we have had on our clients that have experienced these services. We always tell our clients to trust the process and the result always speaks for itself. I created both services to help women feel confident in having healthy hair and skin.

I believe what sets me apart, I love helping others in all aspects, from clients, co-workers, and even someone that just wants to just come to me for advice. I try my best to help them from my past mistakes and lesson. I’m big on making an impact with my business and personal life. Everything is about the experience when you are around me.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid-19 was a huge shift for my business. Being shut down for several months was the most terrifying thing that can ever happen especially in the beauty industry. I was extremely lost and confused on what to do when the shutdown first happened. The support I had from my boyfriend, mother, and sister was out of this world. I’m so thankful for them I owe a lot to them for where I am today.

With being shut down I used that time to educate my followers and clients about self-care at home. I started to focus on “tips of the day” and “did you know” posts. I also made sure that all my skincare clients knew the importance about staying on top of a skincare routine during these times. My healing serum, let me shine body scrub, and whipped shea butter kept a lot of my clients in a very positive headspace.

As several months went by I wanted to update a lot of my services, I wanted to give so much more to my customers/clients. It was time for a sunflower upgrade. Our healthy hair package upgrade sent my business to the next level. We are healing and growing our client’s hair, we have restored a lot of hope, and confidence. Our vajacial treatment has ladies ready to put on a swimsuit with no insecurities with dark marks or breakouts. I knew my mission was to pour healing, love, and confidence back into my clients.
