Conversations with Remy Dupree

Today we’d like to introduce you to Remy Dupree.

Hi Remy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born Arieon Duty, October 11, 1994(27). Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. I am the 3rd of 5 children, raised by my grandmother and my mother. My family and close friends all know me as Arieon, but in the hair world I go by Remy, and in the music world I’m known as Xremx(pronounced Rem, the X’s are silent). I have a background in performing arts, danced from the age (5 to 17) and coached/choreographed majorette from (17 to 23) so my love for music has been a big part of my life. I grew a passion for hair first at the age of 15 and have been in business professionally since 2014 by way of Ogle School of Hair Skin and Nails where my business “The RemyTouch Salon” started and Is still currently in business. Although my passion for hair is undeniable, I can’t say that It was my first love. My first love was music, dance first, but I’ve always been a great writer as well so I decided to turn that passion into a career in music as an artist(rapper, singer, songwriter) back in 2019 which is where my alter ego “Xremx” was born so now while maintaining my full-time career in cosmetology I now have a music career to uphold in which eventually I’d love to do full time. But as of right now, “The RemyTouch Salon” is funding my music career 100 percent. I have now released my debut EP titled “RatedXremx” under my hometeam “Mellowmuziq” featuring my debut single “Remtalk” and my latest single “Pop it” which the project has received great feedback all over. In the hair industry, I have been blessed to work with all walks of life and it has also landed me in the company of world-renowned hair companies like “Yummy Extensions” and “Kosa professionals” which were the first companies that believed in me and gave me the opportunity to work and show the city of Los Angeles what I’m made of.

And since that first work trip to LA, my career has taken off and I was blessed and honored to able to work alongside my “partner in crime” hairstylist “Thelaceeraser”(mentor and friend 15 years) as a duo. Being from ole country Fort Worth, I didn’t know what to expect of LA, let alone working on set there. But my experience has really been a great one, from the huge studio sets, styling beautiful well known models, to working with big-time photographers/videographers, makeup artists and etc. From then to now, my DM’s being flooded with work inquiries is not so much shocking but astonishing because I’m like “wait, y’all really want to work with me?” LA turned me into a networking beast and has also raised the thought in my mind to either become Bicoastal or to move permanently. With my successful career in hair and the feedback that I’m getting from my music, I know for sure that LA is where I need to be to THRIVE. You know they say, “if you want to know how strong and capable of achieving real success you are, move out of your hometown!” I think it’s time for LA to really meet Remy and Xremx, it’s a package deal! Even though I’ll probably always dib and dab in the hair industry, I’d love to be full time in the music industry with writing and composing for other artists and also continuing with my artist/rap career as Xremx, acting and being on set of my own music video’s. I can totally see myself in and out of the studio day in day out putting that work in and I believe and feel that LA Is the place to be for that.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing is ever smooth, but I have been blessed to be in the likes of people in the same industry that I came up in that genuinely want to see me win and have helped/guided me along this journey of mine. I don’t believe any opportunity that is just handed to me is appreciated if no work came behind it. My biggest struggle was always comparing myself to my surroundings/peers and thinking I wasn’t good enough.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I slay hair! I specialize in natural hair, silk press, all extensions, microlinks, custom units, cut, color, etc. I’m mostly known for my silk press, my styling techniques and extension installments (microlink, sew-in, bond-in), owner of “The RemyTouch Salon”.

Hairstylist by day Rapper by night!

My rap name is Xremx.

I write, I rap, sing and perform on stage and video.

I rap and write songs more than anything, I literally can write on the spot especially if a beat catches my attention. I would love to write for other artists as well. I kind of have the twerk and trap sound when it comes to my music, I love to dance so my music is fun and catchy, a little explicit sometimes but you can’t put me in a box. Listen to my project “RatedXremx” and you be the judge of my sound.

What sets me apart from others is that I can’t be boxed? I set the tone and anything I put my mind to I get it done.

What I am the most proud of is that I continue to break down barriers and generational curses. If I want something, I go get it, I don’t give up no matter how hard the task is. You never know what Remy or Xremx is doing next. I’m a true Wildcard…

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Anything that you want to achieve DO IT! Do it scared and do it with no regrets or apologies!
