Conversations with Rachael Holoway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Holoway.

Hi Rachael, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

Hi, thank you so much for having me!

I’m a British actress living in LA with my husband and tiny rescue pup Trixie!

I grew up around the theatre as my dad is an actor and I fell in love with the industry when I was four. I always knew that I wanted to be an actress, so when I was 11 I started my acting training at the prestigious ‘Anna Scher Theatre School’ in London.

I was lucky enough to train with her for four years and the rest is history!

My career has taken me around the world, I’ve worked with some incredible people and with a lot of hard work and persistence, it’s brought me to the place I always dreamed living…Los Angeles!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, some years have been amazing and others much tougher, but I’m in love with what I do so I find keeping a positive mindset and constantly putting the work in keeps me on the right path. I think the biggest mistake you can make in any line of work is just expecting opportunities to knock on your door…that very rarely happens, if ever. I enjoy taking my career into my own hands, putting myself out there, constantly working on my craft to ensure I’m ready for the next adventure when it comes my way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As well as being a classically trained actress, I have a super fun niche that brings a lot of awesome action roles my way. I have over 18 years martial arts experience in Muay Thai, Kick Boxing and I have a black belt in Taekwondo.

I have a very exciting movie coming soon – ‘Snafu’ with Jackie Chan and John Cena. It was the absolute dream job, I learned SO much and I can’t wait for the world to see it!

I’m also super excited about my next project that starts shooting in January. It’s a stunning piece in which I play the lead, a very complicated character with a lot of issues and I’m currently enjoying every moment of the prep work.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I have loved learning Mandarin Chinese over the last five years and the app ‘Pleco’ is a phenomenal learning tool. Also, the app ‘Anki’ is an incredible flashcard app that is so good for consolidating the words you learn as you go. You can use Anki to compile a flashcard deck for any subject you’re studying.

Eckhart Tolle’s ‘A New Earth’ and Tony Robbins ‘Awaken The Giant Within’ are two books I always come back to that have been incredible tools for my life.
