Conversations with Melissa Ward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Ward.

Hi Melissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always wanted a career that revolved around food but I was never really honest with myself about that. About two years ago, I finally decided to pursue my dream and start my own food blog. After almost two years of creating and photographing original recipes for my blog, I realized that blogging was not for me. My real interest was making the food look beautiful. With no idea where to start, I reached out to some local brands and offered to photograph some of their product to build my portfolio. After my first shoot, I was sold – this is what I wanted to do.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
What started as a food blog has morphed into a food photography business that I’m trying to figure out how to grow. I constantly suffer from imposter syndrome which causes me to second guess this path of mine constantly. Luckily I have an amazing support system that challenges me to keep going. I’ve realized if it doesn’t make me uncomfortable and scare me a bit, it’s probably not worth pursuing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a food photographer and am sort of dabbling in all aspects of that business as I hone in on my skills. I’ve styled and photographed my own recipes for my blog as well as photographed for some great food brands! Most recently, I’ve started exploring restaurant photography which is so much fun. I’m sure I’ll pick a focus as I grow but right now, I love pushing my comfort levels and learning all the different things!

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
