Conversations with Margo Roykhman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Margo Roykhman.

Hi Margo, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in Odessa, Ukraine, and moved to Perth, Scotland when I was 12 years old. My whole family stayed in Ukraine while I went to boarding school. It was a very tough journey for me, however, I was able to find my true passion: acting. After spending three years in Scotland, I moved to the US and continued high school there as well as theater. At the age of 15, I was scouted as a model and started my modeling career. I’ve noticed that I feel very comfortable in front of the camera and decided to take my acting from a stage to a screen. While I was in high school, I’ve also found another passion of mine which is makeup. I finished a makeup school and officially became a makeup artist of the age of 17. After graduating both high school and makeup school, I went to New York Film Academy and now I am about to receive my Bachelor’s Degree in Acting for Film. Recently I was casted for a role in new YouTube series, the filming successfully ended in October and it will be released very soon!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has definitely been not smooth! I faced a lot of struggles. Imagine coming to a foreign country and barely knowing the language, plus not having your family with you, on top of being only 12 years old. Though I have learned how to be independent at a very young age, those circumstances almost broke me. Luckily I was able to pull myself together, do good in school and figure out who I want to be in life. Everything that happened to me shaped me into who I am today. With all that experience, I became confident and wise.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Since acting is my main passion, I do consider myself good at it. Not everyone can handle the industry, it is harsh. But I really love to be able to “live” different lives. The characters I get to play teach me so much than a regular office job could teach. And apart from being an actor, I am a part of the beauty industry as an MUA. I feel so honored that I am able to highlight the beauty of anyone who sits in my makeup chair. And finally, modeling. Being able to show the uniqueness of the brand that I am working with or use myself as a piece of art is something that I always wanted to do. It is truly amazing to use all of my passions and make them into careers.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Although my journey was pretty tough, I believe that whenever anyone faces a struggle in their life, they can choose to either learn from it or carry it on their chest. I believe that we are all here to experience, so we should stay curious. Never let anything break you down and follow your dreams!
