Conversations with Kayla Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Parker.

Hi Kayla, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a flare for the strange and unusual! Growing up as a child actor, I quickly learned to empathically place myself in the shoes of others. I was always studying human behavior and creating characters in my mind. I was quite a precocious little nugget!

However, behind the scenes, I was having experiences that couldn’t really be explained. By the time I was 3, I was conversing with what my parents assumed to be imaginary friends inside my home in Canyon Lake, CA. It wasn’t long until my mother realized that these weren’t figments of my imagination but spirits. Growing up in a religious household, the fear took over, and I attempted to turn off what I later came to understand as psychic gifts. I continued to act, juggling school and set life, and went on to study Musical Theatre at the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television. I was very blessed to have performed in many incredible venues and historic set locations during my time as an actress after I left the program, and when I reached the age of 21, these gifts started to come back quite rapidly. It was incredibly overwhelming and I didn’t know what to think of myself. Am I going crazy? Am I making this up for attention? What the fresh hell is going on?!

In 2015 I landed the role of Sue Snell in the LA Revival of Carrie: The Musical (how appropriate). During tech rehearsals at the historic Los Angeles Theater in DTLA, I started feeling and seeing spirits roaming around the balcony of the movie house. I couldn’t ignore it any longer, I knew that I had the gift of clairvoyance. Soon after, I started becoming distracted during my theatrical shenanigans, exploring the halls and basements of venues such as The Montalban in Hollywood and the FOX Theater in Riverside. I kept a lot of it to myself out of fear that people would think I was some sort of freak!

When the pandemic hit in 2020, I left Los Angeles after ten years of performing and slinging beer and returned to my childhood home in Canyon Lake. This is when things REALLY started to amp up. Taking the time to study and learn more about these gifts led me to realize that I had what I like to call a “clair cocktail.” Not only could I see spirit, but I could converse (mediumship), download information that was seemingly out of nowhere (claircognizance), and make wild predictions that came to fruition (foresight). I started dabbling more with my tarot decks, at first out of boredom, but it quickly became a vital tool to map out my thoughts and intuitive hits. I started conducting readings for friends and family, and after receiving confirmation, I knew that I could use these abilities to actually help and empower others; some of which also had gifts that needed to be understood and developed.

I started teaching yoga and tarot classes in the Spring of 2021 at a few wellness centers around the Inland Empire. I also studied Reiki for a little over half a year and became a Reiki Master Teacher. Opening myself up to the metaphysical and energetic world did wonders for my mind, body, and spirit. I knew that it transformed me in an incredibly empowering way, and I wanted to share this clarity and peace with others in need of healing.

I was blessed with the opportunity to hold residency at The Mindful Lotus in Lake Elsinore, a very magical historic bathhouse. I opened my business, Yogic Frequency, and began taking Reiki and tarot clients. After a year of teaching and healing, I decided to expand my services to other studios and centers around Southern California, including Collective Energy Studios in San Clemente. In addition to providing virtual services, I’m currently collaborating with an incredible Angel Medium and fellow Reiki Master Teacher, and as we save and plan for the future, we’re looking to open up a center of our own somewhere in the Temecula area in the Summer of 2023.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
NOPE. Healing isn’t linear! Coming out of the spiritual closet to my family and friends was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done. But finding my tribe, my community of spiritual warriors, helped me feel comfortable in my own skin and confident in my abilities. I’ve met so many incredible psychics and healers during my journey, and I’ve been able to learn from their experiences as well.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I never attempted to present myself as a sticky sweet Yogi or healer. I’m definitely a broad; a rock n’ roll Mary Poppins! I love connecting with my clients on a personal level and remaining down to earth. I try not to get lost in the clouds. I won’t be everyone’s cup of tea – I have the mouth of a truck driver and a wicked sense of humor. But in these times, I think that’s what people need… someone who will keep it real. I’m no guru. I’m no lightworker. I’m no priestess. I’m a dorky girl with gifts, and if anything, I’d consider myself a transmuter, a friend, a spiritual cheerleader!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think people are always fascinated by my time as an actress. It’s quite the career hop, but to be honest, a lot of my studies in the performing arts actually helped fine-tune my intuition! The more connected we are to our physical senses, the easier it is to develop our psychic gifts. I’ve always been an empath, so acting made sense to me. But I realized that there was more important work to be done, a better way to contribute to my community. I’ll always miss performing, it’s a big part of who I am, but I know I’ll hop back into it and play around someday. For now, this is my mission.
