Conversations with Jon Narcisso

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Narcisso.

Hi Jon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey in hat-making started 10 years ago, with a lot of passion and a lot of desire to truly learn the craft. My resilience and consistency is what got me here today. I took the time, in the beginning, to truly learn and develop the skill. I never asked for handouts or had any expectations for other hatmakers to give me anything. NO SHORTCUTS; we live in a time where information is at our disposal, and if you’re truly passionate about something you’ll do everything in your capacity to try to gain insight.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! Learning something from scratch with no blueprint or roadmap feels like the most difficult thing in the world; however, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I love my failures; I love all those embarrassing moments, I even love those awkward moments when people said my designs and products wasn’t very good. (Well, kind of I definitely felt away in the moment… haha) But I had to endure all of those things to build the stamina to keep creating, keep learning, keep pivoting to the next move.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
There are so many names and titles for what I do… Milliner, Hatmaker, Haberdasher, all those titles are just fine with me. I design and create bespoke hats by hand. The best way to describe my design concept is “Freedom” all my pieces I create represent freedom. They come from a non-traditional way of how hats should look, should fit (sometimes) every hats is custom. More so I believe in the “first take” in design as the right way. I believe my color selection + block shape is what excites my customers keeps them coming back.

We’d love to hear about what you think about risk-taking.
My entire design concept could be looked at as taking risk, I totally and completely believe it’s necessary when it comes to your dreams and passion. Risk with Intention is something I believe in and apply to multiple arenas of my life.
