Conversations with De’wayne

Today we’d like to introduce you to De’wayne.

Hi De’wayne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My dad and I would freestyle together since I was about 12. It was always really competitive in a very inspiring way and I’ve been hooked since then. I came to LA from Spring, TX around 19 and worked the worst jobs until people gave me a chance. Five years later, I’m finally finding my groove and it’s f*cking tight cause I truly know what I want to do and how I want to use my voice.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all, it’s been hard to be honest, but I really wouldn’t have it any other way. I would play shows with hundreds of people and then the next day have to work a 8-10 hr. shift flipping pizza. It really grounded me as a human and artist and I’m so thankful I didn’t have a platform when I was a kid because I truly wasn’t ready.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I really hate to self describe it, but I would say it’s Rock n Roll.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Be nice to yourself and tell people you love them while you can.
