Conversations with COSMIC

Today we’d like to introduce you to COSMIC.

Hi COSMIC, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a 21 years old music producer/ dj/ and engineer. I come from a town called Boca Raton, Florida and as of now I am finishing my last year at Florida State University located in Tallahassee, FL. I’ve been making music ever since I was 14 and has always loved the idea of creating something. Before I got into producing, I was very active on Soundcloud finding many artists and producers that I liked and I would create playlists with these artists and producers, which would soon attract the attention from other listeners like me. After realizing that these playlists were getting a lot of attention in very little time, I asked myself why am I not making music. That’s when I came across an Fl studio ad one day which caught my attention because it looked really fun and user-friendly. After I downloaded the app, I started to teach myself how to use the program with the help of some SoundCloud friends I made at the time. There wasn’t that many tutorials as there is now so it definitely was a grind to get familiar with the software myself.

After getting comfortable and figuring out my style by experimenting, I soon started to post music on my SoundCloud which would soon to my surprise start gaining followers and plays like crazy. This kept me motivated because of all the positive feedback I was receiving seemed really cool to me and I enjoyed seeing people’s reactions to my music. Long story short as time went by I soon started to get familiar with SoundCloud platform and networking system they had and I developed a following and some really dope music friends online. These people would collab with me and give me important insight on producing tips, posting, and developing my brand. Even till this day, I continue to be active on all music platforms (not just Soundcloud) on posting consistently throughout the month. As the old me used to make a lot of instrumental beats that have surpassed millions of plays, now I tend to focus more on developing artists and working more with them. I’ve produced for a decent amount of rappers such as Juice Wrld, Destroy Lonely, Yung Kayo, Yung Bans, Apollo1027, Juslo, 777Villain, 4Tunat, sgpwes, T$an, and many more. These rappers are either up and coming or have been already established already. Also aside from producing record vocals and engineer, which I am starting to do more now. I offer a mixing and mastering service out of request because people tend to like how “loud” my mixes are. I plan on dropping an EP soon with all the artists I’ve been working with which I am really excited to drop.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Probably starting off because I feel like it can be hard for someone with no connections or any sort of idea of how music works, kinda like a blank slate to develop a whole brand from the ground up. I am glad for all the connections that I have made so far and I cannot wait for what the future has in store for me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a music producer, dj, and audio engineer.

My main thing and probably my most well-known skill is producing but I am also recording vocals a lot more because it’s fun to do.

I don’t really like to compare myself to others because we all have different paths/ stories to tell but I feel like as a producer, I think brand establishment is so important because people won’t forget who you are as time goes by.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I actually have no music background, like I really wanted to play the drums when I was little however my parents didn’t let me because of how loud they would be but little did they know that my Yamaha hs8’s would be just as loud or even louder.
