Hi Angie & Gino, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started making homemade alfajores at home many years ago. I was determined to make the traditional alfajor that melts in your mouth…I started sharing it with family and friends and was surprisingly please with the wonderful comments each person had. I offered them in a fundraiser and from that day, we started selling them due to the high demand they had become. Then it hit us, why don’t we start an alfajor business? We knew In order to take them to the next level we had to be in a Farmers Market. After that our business has not stop growing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The alfajores are very delicate to make and require lots of time. It is a very tiring job and we can understand why it’s not a common dessert to see in stores, bakeries, restaurants, etc… We have to admit that many times in the beginning, it has come to our mind to quit, but every time this has happen an amazing comment has cheered us up from our lovely customers. The comments as “this are the best alfajores” “taste like heaven” “delicious”. The pandemic has also caused struggles as the shortage of cornstarch which is our main ingredient. The increased in prices on the materials we use.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in making authentic traditional alfajores. We use the finest ingredients so each bite can take you to our South American roots without having to travel out. We also have taken our creativity to the next level by creating birthday platters, alfajor towers, cakes. We have added a twist by changing up our original dulce de leche and adding exotic fruits like guava, maracuya, guanábana, lucuma . We also make coffee dulce de leche, chocolate dip alfajores and more.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
We are full-time Real Estate Agents.
