Conversations with Nicole Grimm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Grimm.

Hi Nicole, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Helping people is something that I have always wanted to do. Business is always fed my soul, working is my jam but helping others, kids and my family are my heart. Being a mom of three and having something for yourself whether that’s a side business, back up money, or an opportunity I started my own business and as well joined a business. I own a party company Party Karacters here in Orange County and started at nine years ago. I was trying to figure out how I can live the mom’s life and also bring money to our family. With helping my husband on his business insurance, I was at an event and saw that I had some talent. I could face paint I wasn’t that bad actually. Somebody asked me for my card, and well during that time I wasn’t even a business so I gave him a Post-It and told him to call me with my phone number on it and told my husband this is something that I’m going to start. Then I got asked to be a MetLife Snoopy for the insurance company and what a blast I had. I never was part of any drama classes but I have a heart for kids and knew that I wanted to start a company that would be based on smiles, imagination and hugs. Party Karacters was born, characters, face painting, balloon twisting entertainment company. I started with just me learning how to do accounting, graphic designing, website design and really everything on my own. I did not have money to outsource as I saved just enough for my very first character which was our mermaid princess. I played her for almost an entire year before I got another costume. I really put my blood, sweat and tears into this business doing a lot of trials and error. I attended a college classes to learn QuickBooks and business classes so I can save money on accounting but it more makes me and showed me how much I could use my potential and my opportunities into one.

I created my own network, moms groups and it only grew from there. Growing something from nothing is really hard to do but it is something I’m very proud of. Party Karacters became a household name in the children’s world of birthday parties – 2019 we started outsourcing other vendors to become a one stop shop from bounce houses, cotton candy machines, balloon decor, dj, photographers and more. It was running amazing. Well towards the begining of 2020, I was looking for a plan b back up money maybe I didn’t have to work on the weekends so much I can attend my kid’s soccer games and play with my family, travel more so I looked into a direct sales company. I wanted to show my presence more on social media instead of always being behind a costume. I wanted to have some self-care time and this is when everything mental health journey began. I jumped into Monat, I loved how my hair was transforming and also I began to motivate other women that same year, I grew a team of 15 women who saw the vision that God used this business to give me a chance to open more doors. I started with Monat a year and a half ago. And saw this direct sales business as an opportunity as what I saw with party karacters. Why couldn’t I do both? I have the hustling entrepreneur spirit that needs to be fed. I know I can do anything when I set my mind to stuff. I felt like this business is different because I wanted to educate women, gain relationships with other like-minded women, and help women grow into the confidence positivity and have amazing hair at the same time. Monat is the #1 anti-aging hair care line in the world. I saw a huge transformation in my hair just by using shampoo. I seized the moment.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As of right now, I am working two jobs being able to stay at home, travel with my family and attend all the soccer games I want to. This past year was a lot of trial in my mental health but really seen the opportunity to start and don’t stop. I want this business to be a vessel for me to do so much for the future and for my other business. I love that Monat is a very transparent company not made on recruiting but made on customers. Regards to covid everything of what I built in party Karacters for nine years completely shut down. I can’t lie to you and tell you that it was easy instead it was a sad situation the most work I’ve ever done got completely taken away. What did I work so hard for? And this is where my thoughts and feelings and mental journey began as my career in children’s entertainment company started decreasing, I started growing in my direct sales. I got to be more social media present-based and empowering other women not to feel failure, show positivity.

Life has definitely thrown obstacles my way and challenged my mental health and made me think that I wasn’t successful in my party company. But the women I met the team that I grew showed me outcome faithfulness and knowing that I’m not a failure. The support system is what I had because failure is always something that we address as women, business owners, workers but I had a product that everyone uses “shampoo” and an opportunity that so many need. It truly is a necessity. Our company is customer base and structured around integrity and helping others it’s not about recruiting like some companies are the resources are endless and there’s so much support. I know it’s scary to start something new especially when nothing is guaranteed but if it’s something that I’ve learned this past year mentally failure is 99% in your head. With your own belief and belief in your support system, you really can push towards any goal you want. It hasn’t been smooth but I wouldn’t trade what I had.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So with party karacters we specialize in kids entertainment company. We are a character company and specialize in face paintings, balloon twisting and entertaining your kids during their birthday party or any children’s adventure holding. I take real good pride in training my performers I think that’s what sets me apart from others is training and having the performers more be like family members, adult children as I call them. I think what also sets me apart is that I really started this party company from the ground up with out asking for handouts through either GoFundMe accounts. Taking pride and setting myself apart is me and my team. I am most proud of my performers seeing the progress and the training I have shown them into becoming great actors, actresses and now taking that into any roles they wish to for the future. I also was in OC parent magazine for the hardest working mom in Orange county. I personally organize with my event coordinator Lindsay to make sure every event is customizable to every client. I hire fine talent interview them and as well as help create all of the video, photo content on social media. I love creating relationships with my customers and building and maintaining for future clients. What I love about Monat is that I get to take time to customize women’s hair care regimen really find out what their goals are for their hair.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is attending camping vacations with my family. I loved going camping in Sequoia National Park every year. We always got to invite a friend and have fun with our family for a week out in wilderness. Being unplugged and having fun! my childhood friends are currently still all of my best friends up till today
