Conversations with Leo Rod and Ydaiber Orozco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leo Rod and Ydaiber Orozco.

Hi Leo and Orozco, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am an immigrant from Venezuela and now a US citizen who has been in this country for 20 years. My wife and I met while going to school for Hotel Management and that career path allowed us to start a new life in this country. We have been fortunate enough to live in many cities and work in several industries pursuing different creative endeavors. I have personally worked as a photographer, filmmaker, and now entrepreneur, while my wife has an even wider array of jobs. She is an actor who has managed restaurants, planned and ran events at a corporate level, and now works in finance. Our passion for dogs and the love for our own rescue pups (Eros and Luna) were the steppingstone to start our company, Eros and Lu.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the most challenging things is to clarify your why. We are bombarded with information from all over and it’s very easy to get distracted and compare yourself with others. Having a clear understanding of why you would want to do something allows you to find the clarity of what you want to do. The beauty of the process is when you connect the dots when you look back and realize that a job, a lesson, or a person from perhaps years ago brought you to this moment. The challenges will continue to come, but it’s all about how we choose to face them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We make pet accessories, at the moment we specialize in making bandanas and hope to expand our line as we grow. Each bandana is hand-stitched in Los Angeles and a part of our profits goes to help shelters and rescues in need. When we adopted Eros and Luna in 2018 from the North Central Animal Shelter in Los Angeles, we realized that we could all do more to help. We felt so lucky to have found two little rascals that complete our family and felt compelled to find a way to give back. Our tagline is to Spruce Up Your Pup! But our mission goes beyond just selling something cute, we truly believe that every animal deserves love, affection, and care, so we do our best to live my example.

What does success mean to you?
The path to success is never linear, trust your instincts and also adapt as you go. Stay open to redirects because most likely failing at something is the perfect opportunity to simply adjust your course. The best way to describe success for us is to have the ability to go from failure to failure with enthusiasm because you know you are doing what you are intended to do.
