Conversations with Kisha Gladden and Rochelle Pollard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kisha Gladden and Rochelle Pollard.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hot Coco Mango was created by us sisters Kisha and Rochelle. While in the middle of this global pandemic and inspired by the rise of Black & Brown owned businesses, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to create a platform that would showcase our love for shoes! Our family business delivers our customers the latest in shoes, anklets and more! We aspire to supply stylish, fun, and most importantly – affordable products. We began selling our shoes in person on Western and Manchester in Los Angeles every Saturday morning for a few fun weeks. Then we were invited to sell in-store with another amazing black-own company, A Plus Los Angeles at the Gardena Swapmeet in Gardena, California. Due to the rise of COVID-19, we switch our business to online shopping ( Awesomely, we still participate in pop-up shops which blesses us to meet current and future customers. But throughout it all, it’s been such a fun and rewarding journey.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes & No! Yes, it has been a smooth road at times because of God’s grace. Some things just click right into position!! For example- when we applied for certain business documents and when we accomplish our small business goals. But then no, because this is all such a new experience! This is all so new to us both, so we run into a lot of new crossroads that are very unfamiliar. Which then, we’ll have to pause, learn, then come back to. It’s truly a learning experience EVERYDAY. But to reach new goals, we’ll have to become new and better business partners.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Kisha Gladden: I teach kindergarten at an amazing private school in Playa Vista. I am also a full-time student at Cal State Long pursuing my degree in Business Management. Rochelle Pollard: I’m currently working In customer care and tech support. I always keep my hands in the creative media field – as well as an interviewing host. Lastly, I model for a few businesses such as A Plus Los Angeles, Renny Raw Hair, & a few others.

What are your plans for the future?
One of our future plans is to ship internationally. We would like to offer our services and ship all over the world. We would also like to incorporate men’s and children’s shoe lines as well which is super exciting!!
