Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Arrezola-Reyes.
Hi Karina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Karina and I am owner of Forth Unit. Forth Unit was created during covid! I have always dreamed of owning my own business and I was just very scared and I didn’t even know what I wanted to do or sale. When I lost my job like many others, I was home and I told myself “Karina, you have nothing to lose, it’s time to do it!” So I started, with no plan whatsoever !! I launched Forth Unit on my 30th birthday! (what a great memory) and from then it’s been a roller coaster ride and I LOVE every second of it! I am still VERY VERY new to this and I have so much to learn but I have an amazing support system, I have gotten plenty of opportunities to attend pop-ups and that’s where I feel I’ve been able to share and enjoy it most because I get to meet amazing customers and vendors that have a dream just like me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth road?? no way! I’ve had weeks that I didn’t make a single sale and I start to overthink about my business if what I’m doing is correct and what not! But I have learned to appreciate the not so smooth road, it has taught me plenty! I’ve learned what works and how to approach this small business world!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Forth Unit is all about handmade chic jewelry and small accessories. I make my pieces out of gold-filled & gold plated metals, which include necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings and keychains. I try to have a variety of items because no one has the same style. What might be a simple necklace to someone, it might be someone’s statement pieces. I personally LOVE doing necklaces and adding pendants to them, I feel that’s my specialty. I have found that I’m most proudest of two pieces which are Self Love & Butterfly Sugar. Self Love came out of my Valentine collection as a way to appreciate the love for oneself & butterfly sugar is such a beautiful necklace (I actually thought it wasn’t going to sell, turns out I’ve made 20+ of it). What sets me apart from all the wonderful jewelry creators? Hmm, I could only say I try my best to make jewelry that says something about the person who wears it. I want my customers to love their pieces and feel something when they wear it, that’s how I feel when I wear a piece I LOVE! I also really love to connect and make more than just a sale, I truly love meeting and talking to everyone that makes a purchase from my shop. I wouldn’t be here without any of my customers.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
This is a great question, and I could only say jewelry trends change constantly but I try to make items that will still be great wear five years from now. From what I see now that I’m part of the jewelry industry, it’s growing rapidly. There is plenty of new small businesses, new artist coming out with styles that I never saw before and it’s so amazing to change. In 5 years I hope to still be part of this amazing business world, making beautiful and affordable jewelry.
