Conversations with the Inspiring Susan Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Lee.

Susan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I come from a lifelong love and career in design and Wilder is the prodigy of that love story. It is the accumulation of my experiences as both a denim designer and avid vintage collector, my passions in fashion and interiors, and my obsession with well-made products.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing is an obstacle… I do not believe in that. I believe there are challenges that we may need to encounter and overcome but they are never obstacles. They are actually there to teach us valuable lessons and to make us better so we can move forward wiser and stronger. If you think about it, it is the challenges that really tell the story of your journey.

As women, we will all face challenges, that is a part of life. So, my suggestion is to live your life fully! And ride your challenges instead of running from them. It will make you wiser and stronger and unshakable but only if you face them head on and deal with the challenges. They are blessings in disguise really. No good journey is without the challenges and the best journeys are only full of them to make the outcome better and sweeter. My suggestion is to not get scared of the challenges, never give up and be strong like all women are!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Wilder story. Tell us more about the business.
Wilder Studio and showroom is really about my life as I know it now and also it’s a story about love- my showroom and studio were built around everything I love in life: vintage denim, vintage interiors, nature. Things that inspire us and bring us beauty. In Wilder, you will find specially curated objects that each have a story behind them. I have people coming to my studio and spending a whole day with me to get inspired by the space and by the good conversation and company.

Within the studio, I also design and carry a seed to cloth line called All Things Living, a brand which focuses on producing organically and ethically, with our mother Earth in mind. Within the brand, we have organic non-GMO seeds, deadstock denim aprons, as well as recycled clothes that we hand-dyed in small batches using natural dyes (indigo, marigold, sumac to name a few of the natural dyes). All Thing’s Living motto is “Nature is Slow. Take Your Time. Watch It Grow.” I believe in that. We need to slow down and think and rethink about how we are producing things and what kind of impact it is doing to the world. Is it a positive impact or negative? And we all need to focus on the positive. It really does matter now and it all depends on us.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
