Conversations with the Inspiring Sarah Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Green.

Spare Parts for Broken Hearts is a melodic, 3 piece, alternative/post-grunge band fronted by vocalist & guitar player, Sarah Green (SG). SG is also the vocalist & bassist for LA-based shoegaze band, Miserable.
In 2010, SG returned to Los Angeles from a summer touring with the Van’s Warped tour and founded Spare Parts for Broken Hearts in a downtown rehearsal space. SG recently relocated Spare Parts for Broken Hearts to Echo Park and rounded out its lineup w/Jonny Cifuentes on bass & Jessica Lankford on drums. New music is expected to be released in the fall of 2018.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
SG: For young women jumping into this thing, I’d say stop saying you’re sorry. Don’t be sorry that you want to get really good at something, don’t be sorry that it feels good, don’t be sorry if you don’t want guys in your band, don’t be sorry for asking a sound person to turn up your microphone, don’t be sorry for screaming your songs into that microphone, don’t be sorry that people think your music is good or bad and don’t be sorry that your artistry is a reflection of where you’re at as a human being. You’re going to evolve as a musician and as a human, just keep doing that and all of the struggles you can build upon will become your victories.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Spare Parts for Broken Hearts story. Tell us more about the business.
I make really loud and heavy music as Spare Parts for Broken Hearts. I play multiple instruments, specialize in feelings and am probably known for my strange sense of humor. I’m most proud of how much I still like myself and that I can say I create and play in my favorite band of all time.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
