Conversations with the Inspiring Queenie Nguyen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Queenie Nguyen.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Queenie . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m currently a nail artist in Beverly Hills, California. I’ve been in the beauty or precisely the nail industry for about ten years. This had started out as a part time job during the last year of my high school after I passed my State Board Exam for the license and slowly became a stable job throughout college and up until now. I graduated with a degree in Business Marketing. I’ve been using what I learned in school to market my own work on social media.

The nail industry is forever evolving and nail art was once just a fun thing that the ladies do on their toes or on their kids’ nails has become such a statement. I’ve always loved painting. I took art classes throughout high school and college. To me, art is fun and personal. Art isn’t about being too perfect. I like that aspect because no one is perfect and I like expressing that through nail art. My favorite type of art is modern and contemporary. My work ranges from geometric, negative space to edgy fashionable arts. What I enjoy the most is the reaction from the clients once their nails are finished. It is such a joy!

I feel very blessed to be working in Los Angeles because of the beautiful weather but also the diversity. Because of this, I learn so much about different cultures through clients’ stories and they inspire me so much for my art. I love that everyone in LA seems to be so open-minded and accepted.

My goal for the future is to continue pursuing a career in the nail industry and creating more art that hopefully leads me to a more editorial path. I enjoy working on photoshoots and lifestyle events and I would love to continue doing so. The ultimate dream is to travel internationally to work in magazines and editorial.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Hmmm… nothing is ever easy. I really think hard work always pays off. All my life, I’ve always been a multi-tasker.

I went to school full time and also worked full time. I’m sure people that work and study full time remember those all-nighters. However, I feel so accomplished for what I’ve done so far in my career. I also took care of my sick mom in the midst of work and school. Yes, I did have to juggle everything and I felt the stress at times so like we all know the saying: the struggle is real!

But every time I felt down, I thanked God for being alive and being able to pursue an education and a professional career. I felt that compared to my situation, there are people who are less fortunate out there and who I am to complain but to push harder.

My advice to young women is that never giving up and always say yes to opportunities. I’ve never in my entire life ever say “No” when I get offered jobs or invitation to workshops that I knew are good opportunities to advance my career but also to network and meet people who can potentially help you to achieve your dream jobs.

what should we know about @nailartbyqueenie25? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a nail artist. Which means I draw on people’s nails. I’ve always loved art and especially paintings.

So, I think of clients’ nails as a mini canvas to draw on. I’m specialized in gel nails and nail art.

I’m proud of myself and the work that I currently do because I love making people and I love to talk. Being a Marketing graduate, I enjoy learning new things in the creative world.

I’ve been working in the nail industry for about ten years and I’ve witnessed tons of changes in the industry and I love that I’m able to advance my career with new products but also keeping the old techniques that I know still work to help giving clients healthier nails.

I guess what specials about me are that I don’t value quantity over quality. I like to take the time to get to know the client before working on her nails. Art is a form of expression and nail art is no different. I would never draw random art that I think the client will like. Clients’ happiness is above all.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
The number one woman that inspires me so much is, of course, my mother. Being a single mother isn’t the easiest thing and she does it so effortlessly. On top of that, being an immigrant in a new country also has its ups and downs. Her working two jobs while raising me in America is something that encourages me through everything. If my mother can do it while speaking very little English, then I can definitely push through it all and accomplish what she cannot accomplish because of the English barrier. She was a nurse in Vietnam but the language barrier had her changed her career in America. I made a promise to never disappoint her.
