Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Pi.
Natalie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Five years ago, I decided to quit my full-time job in PR and pursue a huge goal of mine: starting an online business. In 2014, I created a women’s online styling consulting service in which I provided weekly outfits to each member that were curated specifically to their personal style. After two years, I decided to reconstruct my business and transform it into a women’s online boutique. I was in charge of all the buying, merchandising, and social media. I have a degree in Retail Merchandising and Product Development so that definitely came in handy. But managing the social media account, I had to learn the ins and outs of everything from hashtag research, content optimization, increased engagement, follower growth, etc. It required extensive research, constantly. I grew to really love it and from there, my account took off as I was not only posting my boutique’s clothing but also my personal style and beauty tips in order to connect deeper with my followers and consumers. Fast forward to 2017, I had over 20k followers and was building relationships with not only my followers but fashion and beauty brands as well. I launched my blog, moved to Los Angeles, and have truly never been happier.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Easy? No, probably the complete opposite! I struggled with finding the right direction for my business which was a very bumpy road. Lots of tears and sleepless nights. But, I am and always will be a firm believer in that everything indeed happens for a reason and there is ALWAYS a silver lining. My business not turning out the way I had planned led to me finding my true path in blogging + social media and moving from Miami to Los Angeles where the opportunities here are endless.
As for advice, it’s totally ok if you feel stuck and unsure of where your path may lead. It may take a couple tries until you figure it out, but don’t let fear stand in your way and hold you back – take a leap of faith. Do what makes YOU happy and don’t quit until you find that happiness!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Aside from blogging, I also decided to go to Esthetician school last year so I am now a licensed Esthetician and a certified eyelash extensions technician which is another source of income for me. If you follow me, then you know I am a huge skincare advocate, so I plan on getting my medical aesthetics certification as well in the near future. If there’s one thing you need to know about me, it’s that I always need to be doing more than one thing! It keeps me going.
What sets me apart from others is that I stay true to myself and don’t feed into what society thinks I should be doing or posting. I think that’s very hard to find nowadays, especially on social media. Staying true to yourself and being authentic is extremely important and will keep you on the right path.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
100%. I find there is an opportunity in anything if you put your mind to it. Especially now, I feel as if us women have the upper hand when it comes to being a voice. We have the ability to inspire others and pave the path for those who are hesitant in taking a leap of faith, or even just the next step.
