Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Hale.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After growing up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and Graduating from the University of Georgia in 2003, I packed one suitcase and with $500 to my name and the hope for an exciting future I moved to San Diego not knowing a soul. I landed in Law School a few years later mostly because I needed a “plan” and was lucky enough to work for the San Diego District Attorney’s Office. Fast forward two years, I went on my honeymoon to Lake Como and had an “ah ha” moment that criminal law was not my passion and if I didn’t make the hard decision to leave now, I might never leave. So, I quit the day I got back and started a blog (that if I had stuck with would have been a huge success – but instead I had back to back pregnancies – a.k.a. “10-month tequila hangovers.”).
Still floating through life, a unique opportunity landed in my lap. In 2012, when Facebook Private Groups were just becoming popular, I met my soon-to-be business partner who was running a 30-day clean eating challenge and fell in love with the concept. We launched The 30 Clean and, while six years later, I am now out of the day-to-day operations, it is still the only program I use when I need a full nutrition reset!
After making yet another difficult decision to leave a company that I had co-founded and poured by blood, sweat, and tears into… I also had to have the courage to get divorced. I was literally doing a full sweep of everything in life that was no longer serving me, and, sure enough, when you choose happiness the universe provides. I once again had a unique opportunity land in my lap and now I work with You42, an up and coming platform for content creators! I have a web series called “Molly Tries…” and a podcast called “The Mollyses Show!” My Instagram following grew from 1500 in September of 2018 to now over 14k. I love documenting every aspect of my journey (including my first date in 12 years! Secretly!) on my Instagram stories and look forward to sharing any future awkward moments as I continue to choose nothing less than happiness in life!
Has it been a smooth road?
Huge struggles! Not knowing what you want to do in life is very overwhelming… and having the courage to leave very secure situations in exchange for the unknown is very intimidating. My dad was very sick 2 years ago and he told me three things: 1. You will never feel your age (he still feels 27 at 72) 2. You ARE GOING TO DIE and none of this will matter and three. The worst thing in life is regret for the things you didn’t do. Those words struck me in a way that motivated me to change everything. Also, I trust myself and I know that if something doesn’t end up working out I will have the resiliency to figure it out. 😉
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I specialize in NOTHING (ha!) but I’ve had so much fun learning how to produce a web series and podcast. I never really knew how witty I was… and the experience of writing and seeing “jokes” come together has been thrilling! If you had told me that I would be in the Entertainment at age 37, I would have told you-you were drunk. LOL! Also, I never realized how much I would fall in love with my quickly-growing Instagram community. They have helped me through so much and I credit them for giving me the confidence to pursue my crazy dreams!!!
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Yes – Hands down Gary Vaynerchuk. (spelling?) I love how he tells it like it is and beats me into submission. #NoExcuses
