Conversations with the Inspiring Mindy Kinne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mindy Kinne.

Mindy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have a degree in Food Science and Technology with a minor in Chemistry and worked as a food scientist in research and development for nine years. During my studies, in order to pay for college, I started working in the restaurant industry as a server and or bartender. Even after I graduated and started working in the Food Science field, I still worked as a bartender Friday and Saturday nights because I loved the industry and everything about making people happy with good food and drinks. Having direct experience in the service industry and being able to create unique flavors and foods on my own, I realized that owning my own neighborhood cafe was a dream of mine.

I met my husband at a bar, so when we opened our cafe together we named it, “Met Her At A Bar.” We wanted the cafe to be built on everything that we love, for instance, great food, amazing energy, and a cozy and fun atmosphere. I truly feel blessed to have the opportunity to provide good food and good times to our neighborhood and the surrounding areas. 🙂

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anything that is worth fighting for or any dream that is desired to come true, one must inevitably face some bumpy roads along the way, I mean some really bumpy roads! Any endeavor will have its own struggles, but it’s when we are struggling, this is where we must power through to the next level. When we struggle, we grow and learn more than we could even imagine about our selves and about the business you are in. Whenever you feel that you are out of your comfort zone, consider it a gift because this is where the magic happens. Remember… comfort is the enemy of art so embrace the challenges along the bumpy road to success!!

What should we know about Met Her At A Bar? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Here at Met Her At A Bar we specialize in waffle creations and place a focus on using high-quality ingredients. Our cafe is known as being the hip little neighborhood cafe where you can eat unique amazing food and enjoy a fun neighborhood atmosphere. And yes! I am super proud of knowing about this.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Keep it simple. What I mean is do what you love and you will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor! Also, believe in your self because if you don’t believe in your self, no one else will. One other thing… Be YOU! Because being your true self is your X factor and everyone’s X factor is the variable that places you in the right spot at the right time.
