Conversations with the Inspiring Liza Siegal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liza Siegal.

Liza, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a millennial mommy and a blogger (my blog is But first – my story: as many other wannabes, I came to LA to pursue career in film. I studied screenwriting and acting, wrote a few screenplays and worked as a screenplay analyst at a talent agency. I also worked at a commercials. But film business is tough. The toughest part of it is that you have to work so hard to get an opportunity to actually showcase your art!

Initially, I started my blog two years ago (it was then called to help regular women realize that they don’t have to spend a fortune or go to a surgeon to look good. Anyone can be beautiful if they only take better care of themselves because being beautiful begins with being healthy.

However, last year, I decided to change the focus of my blog and make it more of a lifestyle than just a beauty blog. The reason to that was that, I’ve realized that it’s impossible to be healthy without being joyful! I felt disappointed about my difficulties to get where I wanted in my career in film. Being sad and depressed affected the way I looked! This is why I decided to make my blog a place of inspiration for the regular women to find the joy, the beauty and the meaning in the everyday life!

My blog, LA LIZA is inspired by the city of LA and by all that it represents (this is what LA stands for). On my blog, I share my little adventures in the city of LA – my everyday joys that put a smile on my face. They are simple – a treat at a local bakery, a cheerful conversation with a barista or smelling the LA’s beautiful ever-blooming flowers. I also share some of my regular-girl beauty tips, feminine style picks and some guilt-free treat recipes! If there is a message that I want to send to anyone reading this, here it is: love yourself! Take care of yourself! Because you are worth it!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Life had never been smooth for me! (Actually it isn’t smooth for anyone, right?) It was difficult when I just came to LA and didn’t know anyone. I had to look for work and find a place to stay. It’s been said to think that I am not where I want to be with my film career. After I gave birth to my two beautiful boys, I suffered from a severe post-partum depression (and felt awfully guilty about it!). Blogging hasn’t that easy on me either! I’m always second-guessing myself, wondering if my blog is good enough! Blogging is a lot of work and seeing the results takes a long time! Sometimes, it may seem hopeless to not see any positive feedback about the work that you do!

But here’s my little piece of advice: treat yourself sometimes! Those little everyday joys go a long way! Reward yourself for the small victories that you win on your way “up there”! And finally… perhaps helping someone that day or giving a genuine smile to the tired cleaning lady is one of the best things that anyone can do on an everyday basis! Thinking of this helps me see the meaning in my everyday existence. I hope that it’ll help you, too!

what should we know about LA LIZA? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Currently, I am a blogger and my blog is LA LIZA. Initially, it was a beauty blog where I shared my everyday beauty tips (my goal was to help regular women realize that they don’t have to spend a fortune to look great. They just need to take simple steps to take better care of themselves). Now, LA LIZA had evolved into more of a lifestyle blog where I share my pretty and famine, yet versatile fashion picks, my beauty tips and my everyday beautiful moments of living as a “regular” person in the city of LA, the city that celebrates its celebrities, yet has so much beauty to offer to anyone living in it!

I cordially hope that if anything, I’m helping my beautiful readers see the meaning and the beauty in their everyday lives, even if they are not a celebrity or an “overachiever”! It’s just that… with all the “20 under 20 billionaires” the “30 under 30 up and coming” lists these days many of us can’t help but start feeling that if you don’t have at least three kids and at least a billion dollars in the bank before you’re 30, you aren’t worth “celebrating”! I believe that you do! Because even if you haven’t achieved all your success just yet, you have a potential to get there. Because you do great little things for the people around you every single day. And this is why you deserve to feel great and to be beautiful! Anyone does!

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Yes, I feel like it did. I grew up in a very loving family, but I was bullied a lot at school. I was very shy and sometimes, I was brought to tears every single day! There were times when I felt like, I’ll never be able to “fit in”. But slowly, I came to realize that one banal thing: to feel good about yourself, to feel like you’re beautiful and attractive, you need to find the beauty within. If you just begin with a smile, with thinking about how you can help another person instead of how to please them so that they like you, you’ll actually find that content within yourself. You will feel whole and beautiful, independently of what other people think or say. And it draws people in! Life had shown that it does! With my blog, I hope to help my readers to see that beauty inside themselves. (And also give my couple of cents on looking their best as well, because… well, that doesn’t hurt either, does it?) 🙂
