Conversations with the Inspiring Lisa Jagodzinski

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Jagodzinski.

Lisa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started out working in a salon at the age of 15. There was a local salon in my area that was looking for an assistant. At that age I thought “how fun would that be to work in a beauty salon” and of course it sounded glamorous to a teenager. Little did I know at that time that this was my true calling and passion. Everything just kind of flowed after that and led me to where I am today. It’s been a beautiful journey of growth, education, and expansion to get where I am today. I’ve been in the business for 20+ yrs. I worked in a huge day spa for about 10yrs in C. With that came great education and a wonderful team of talented stylists to work with. After that time something inside of me felt a little unsettled. All of a sudden working for someone else in a big corporation didn’t work for me anymore. I felt as if it was dulling my love for what I do.

I then had something wonderful come into my life that allowed me to be able to comfortably quit my job to start freelancing and exploring doing business on my own. I very quickly found myself surrounded by a lot of successful entrepreneurs and learning from them all I need to know to start my own business. Shortly after that, I found myself wanting to open a business of my own. I honestly never had a dream or thought of doing something like this in the past but it spoke to me so strongly with joy and excitement I knew it was the right thing to do. I started out my first business with a partner and shortly after that moved on to open a business of my own.

Lisa Jags Salon. Specializing in hair & airbrush spray tanning. I had that business for 7 amazing years. Built up a wonderful clientele and just loved everything about this experience. Towards the end of this time again I got that feeling inside that there is something more for me out there and at the end of my days I wasn’t feeling totally fulfilled again, my passion was beginning to dull.

I then decided to follow a dream of mine I’ve had since the age of 15. I’ve always wanted to move to southern California. And so I did! I set a goal, sold my business, and drove across country with my dogs. Arriving in Santa Monica CA on New Year’s Eve 2016. Love tying things to significant dates! Woke up New Year’s Day 1-1-17 to a beautiful fresh start. My west coast time so far has been an amazing adventure. Now renting space on Abbott Kinney Blvd. in Venice building up my clientele.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There’s definitely ups and downs to working towards what you want. My advice from my experience is just never give up. If you have a dream keep on pushing through till you make it to the top. The hard times and struggles I saw as great learning lessons and grew so much from each experience. What doesn’t break you makes you blossom even more. When you’re deep in the middle of that struggle I know it’s hard to see it that way but I promise it’s worth it to stay positive. My first business was unfortunately with a professional con artist. I found this out 3weeks after signing a lease with her for 5yrs. Long story short I got out of the lease a year and a half in and opened my own very successful business afterwards. It was the hardest year and a half of my life but it pushed me in so many ways to the next level of growth.

What should we know about Lisa Jags? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a hairstylist & reiki practitioner. I specialize in creative cuts & color to fit my client’s personality and lifestyle. I also do upwork and styles for weddings, special events, and photo shoots. I’m now for holding space and making those deeper connections with clients through energy work (reiki) while creating the perfect look for them. Transformation from the inside out is my tag line. I’m most proud of the part of my business where I get to make a difference in someone else’s life by making them feel good about who they are along with the way they look. I love accentuating a person’s natural beauty and teaching them how to work with what they have.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Be patient, take it all in, and be your authentic self.
