Conversations with the Inspiring Kayla Krapf

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Krapf.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kayla. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was eight years old, I dreamed of designing homes. I used to help my dad every chance I got with any type of remodel on our ranch home. That’s what truly sparked my passion. When I was going through my high school career, I was categorized as a homeless student and during this time, it created a deeper meaning of ‘home’ for me. I knew at this time exactly what I wanted to do, create not only aesthetically pleasing houses but a place for families to come together and call home. After high school, I attended CSU Chico for their construction management program. However, I had to withdraw within the first three months because I lost my vision one day while I was walking the isles of the grocery store. From that time forward, I was supposed to be blind for the rest of my life. But after countless of doctor appointments, CT scans, and spinal taps, I finally had my vision back. During my last MRI, I contemplated whether or not I wanted to continue at Chico or if I wanted to do something different. So I got home that day applied to my dream school, the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise, and within two weeks I got accepted and was packing my bags and moving down to Orange County, From this point, I knew that I was not going to let anything stop me from pursuing my dreams. Towards the end of my college career, I opened up a professional organizing business and did that until I felt ready enough to dive into the crazy world of Interior Design. Now, five months, 13 projects later, I am living my dream and experiencing the most amazing opportunities.

Has it been a smooth road?
This journey has been nothing short of an up-and-down adventure. Thankfully, after many years, I have finally understood when the most ‘paralyzing’ thing is to happen, that’s usually when the most beautiful and biggest blessings occur. After having money stolen, my car broken into, and at times barely able to afford food. During those times, I never would imagine my life would be where it is at this given moment. But now being able to reflect on everything I have gone through and know that even though at times I feel stagnant, I am exactly where I am supposed to be in this crazy journey.

I would advise any and all entrepreneurs that you are in control of your own destiny. You pave your own path, so just breath and get to digging’. If you want it desperately enough you will do anything and everything to get to where you need to be. Don’t give up on the goal, enjoy the ride, and have a glass of wine (or maybe 5).

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Pasic Designs story. Tell us more about the business.
Pasic Designs originated as an interior design business. However, it has now molded into a place for people to come who need different design services; thus being interior design and decorating, graphic design, website design, personal styling, and creative director opportunities.

I have found that aesthetics are not my only passion but so is sustainability. Working with local businesses to create and design as well as loving and giving back to the environment and this beautiful earth.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Something that has always made me nervous to start my career is knowing that there is someone more educated and more qualified than I am. This mindset held me back in applying for jobs I thought I wasn’t going to be good enough for. I have concluded though, no matter what industry there is ALWAYS going to be someone more qualified than the next person in one way or another, so why let that stop me from trying? So my little nugget of wisdom would be, to not be intimidate of what you don’t know. There is always room to grow and the opportunity to learn.
